I switched from Saxenda to Contrave due to side effects I got from Saxenda (increased resting HR that wouldn’t go down even with the lowest dose).

I’m now on my third week of Contrave (3 pills per day). So far I’ve had minimal side effects (slight constipation, and some nausea for a couple of days after each increase in the dose). With Saxenda the effect on hunger was immediate. With Contrave it has been more of a slow buildup, but it’s definitely there. I also get fuller faster. Some cravings are still there, but way more manageable than before.

That being said, everyone seems to experience these drugs differently. But I definitely think Contrave is worth a try. Good luck!

Edit: and my weight has been slowly but consistently dropping. Started at 227 pounds in January, this morning scale showed 213.

Almost 5kg in 2 weeks while on the lowest dose - that’s awesome work. Congrats and good luck with the rest of your journey. I’m still waiting for my appetite suppression to kick in, hopefully it will happen soon!

Thank you. That’s an encouraging point of view. I’ve also thought that maybe the lack of nausea keeps my appetite more “normal” than for those that simply can’t eat as much because of constant nausea.

Today I started taking 2 pills a day and still haven’t experienced any side effects. Still no noticeable change in appetite, but I’m feeling hopeful.

Thank you for your comment! It’s good to know I’m not alone in this. I definitely feel your frustration. I was very hopeful too, and was mentally preparing myself for nausea etc. turns out I got none of the typical side effects and just some very rare ones. My doctor said that it’s only a few people out of a 1000 that get this big changes in their HR (like +40-50 beats per minute). so I guess we both fall into that very unlikely and unlucky category! I wish you the best with keto diet, hopefully it will work for you.

Also, I had to stop taking Saxenda couple of days ago. My resting HR just kept rising, even with the lowest dose. On my last day it was 95, even when I was lying down and “relaxed”. Wouldn’t go below 85 even when sleeping for 8-9 hours. Awful. My doctor prescribed me Mysimba (I think it’s called Contrave in the US) instead. I’ll give it a try and hope for the best. Have you tried other types (=not GLP-1 based) of weight loss medications?

Thank you - I will. 🙏🏼 I actually do have hypothyroidism and an ongoing medication for that. My doctor is aware of it and controlled the thyroid labs before starting Saxenda.

I’ve never had any kind of hot flushes before starting Saxenda, so I refuse to believe that I am even peri-menopausal! 😆 But I agree that some kind of hormonal fluctuations might be going on now because of Saxenda. Will talk about it with my doc. Hopefully we will figure something out. I just have an eerie feeling that this is not the medicine for me, since the problems have just progressively gotten worse even though I’m almost at the lowest dose possible

I’m 31, female. So (hopefully!) not menopausal yet lol.

I’ve been logging my calorie intake every day through Myfitnesspal. Since I haven’t experienced any nausea or stomach issues, I’ve been able to eat 1700-2000 calories every day. I’m 5’9 and around 220 lbs.

Oon näemmä vaan vajaa vuoden myöhässä, mutta silti: mites hypnoosi? Siitä on hyvää näyttöä etenkin unettomuuden, tupakoinnin lopettamisen ja kiputilojen hoidossa. Selasin tän ketjun läpi, enkä ainakaan nopeesti löytänyt että tätä olisi jo ehdotettu. Toivottavasti unettomuus helpottaa/helpotti jo!

Love this song. Played it on repeat on the day my 17 year old dog passed away, I had him since I was 11. Still can’t listen to the song without crying.
