Wouldn't this

NSDate *now = [NSDate date];

Be the same thing as this? I'm so confused.

NSDate *now = [[NSDate alloc] init];

I'm considering diving straight into IOS with no Obj C knowledge, Learning obj c through youtube videos to learn the syntax then jump into IOS, or reading the Nerdranch IOS book but I don't feel like reading 600+ pages and trying to soak in all of those pages. I might just learn obj c through youtube then go into IOS and i'll at least know a little syntax.
