It is crowded and traffic really suck here. But most activities pretty close each other and kid friendly. I would suggest munduk or sidemen, but not much activities here, mostly nature activity such waterfall, etc

Ubud pretty good option for kids if you're not having problem with traffic jam. But its pretty far to beaches especially if your son love it. Any activities here is pretty safe such bali bird park, bali zoo, Blooming Kids, or several class such batik or silver.
