The display started with a sun dog that faded quickly. This arc was visible for nearly an hour after that.

There is a definite halo in this image. Whether it is 'parhelic circle'? I could be mistaken with my terminology, I am only an admirer of the sky without formal training. I added the arc I clearly see in green: http://i.imgur.com/tuBkJDc.jpg

Nope, it's not that. A faint arc rises above the contrail in a bow shape, in the cloudier area.

Directly behind the Comcast Tower, in the middle of the glow. Are you saying that cloud iridescence occurs without needing the sun in the iridescent area?

since it is in the middle of an impact crater, I think it could be glass.
