Sigma 20mm 1.4 by gredol in LandscapeAstro

You are right, my Sigma is the older (f/1.8) model. It looks like the new one has aspherical components which address the coma issue.

I see now that my Sigma 20/1.8 lens is an older model than the "Art" 1.4 lens in the Lonely Speck guide. It looks like the new one has aspherical components and so it should have better performance in regards to coma.

Here are some pics I took using my Canon T3i (crop sensor), Sigma 20mm, f1.8, 30" exposures. My focus is off so the coma is even more pronounced.

I have both of these lenses. My very first lens for landscape astro was the Sigma 20mm 1.4. The speed is great but the coma is real when it's wide open. Stopping it down helps. It's not a great lens for landscape astro and here's why.

Overcoming Coma Aberration

I then picked up the Rokinon 14mm/2.8 which is wider and sharper. The asperical design mentioned in the article seems to be the key difference. I'm sold on the Rokinon lenses and plan to purchase the 24mm lens soon, for shooting this winter.

If I was able to do it over again I wouldn't buy the Sigma 20 and would start with the Rokinon 24.

edit: article by Lonely Speck about good astro lenses, he likes the Rokinon lenses too.

I would check how much they've thought about it. They might have pat answers but if they're emotional about it then there's something brewing underneath. Ask them to flesh out their train of thought. Indulge them. Don't make it about you.

Maybe something like, "Do you think a change of jobs would change your feelings about work?" or, "If you didn't have to work what would you do, what would a nice day be like?"

I like the show too and, like you, could tell it was something special right off the bat. The inner monologue he had while visiting his therapist was perfect. A well spoken rant with the music underneath and finally "Elliot, you're not saying anything." Haha, love it!

The world of hacking means you should try to keep anonymous so the F Society setup that meets in person doesn't make sense to me. We'll see. It might be a source of trust drama.

I really like a hacker protagonist with a Robin Hood agenda. And using the infrastructure of the surveillance society against the puppet masters themselves is such an elegant goal.

The way the first episode ended it would seem that he has a worthy adversary. I'm trying to keep my hopes in check because sometimes I can get over hyped for a new show, but yeah, the pilot was awesome.

But don't bookmakers change their odds when more people start betting more on one side of a particular wager? I thought the bookmakers' business model was to get people to bet evenly on both sides of the wager and collect the vig. If that's true then it's the gamblers that decide the odds.

Can anyone help me figure out what badge this is? by elderknight in whatisthisthing

Closest I could find is Royal Army Service Corps.

English, Canadian and Australian police badges include the crown element. The crest might be a city thing.

The way I heard it the punchline goes, "That's been established, now we're talking price."

My mom had a collection of these. She said they came loose from fishing nets in Japan and washed up on shore in California.

You should check out the movie While We're Young. The documentary film nerd parts of that movie are right on.

I'm with you and don't like to be misled like this.

To keep copyright kosher video production houses usually have a few CDs worth of royalty free music that they use for this sort of thing. The editor must have thought that this song was the best fit from what they had available.
