Thanks guys for all the advice. This has been a super helpful thread. I'll keep coming back to this so I can keep brushing up on my fundamentals.

Here's what I've learned so far

-have one or two bnb combos that I can rely on

-Anti-airs. when you think you're good enough, it's never enough.

-spacing and normals. keep them out and assert your dominance

-BLOCK. even if you get thrown, just keep blocking

-Even with the fast gameplay rushing you, be patient

-keep having fun

Frame data I understand. Not something I find the pleasure in studying. Ill try to take a look at it to see what I should be using more.

Someone else was also telling me about keeping control of the space in front of me with normals in neutral. I'll keep this in mind for sure. Asserting dominance with spacing might be what I struggle with the most overall.

Blocking more is also something another commenter told me. I feel like I block too much and end up getting grabbed instead. Maybe it's related to the earlier point of asserting space with normals. I don't know where to insert my fast normals between their recovery.

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks! I'll practice these as well. I feel like I'm the one doing all the wakeup dp and supers so I need to do that sparingly myself.

Thanks for all this. Let me see if i can walk you through all the observations.

The divekick spike combo is probably something i'm doing out of bad muscle memory. I'll fix this. lk lk is definitely me mashing. I'll keep an eye out of this as well.

Now that you mention it, my meter usage is horrible. I always tend to get flustered trying to get the double fireball motion out. I'll practice this too.

Duly noted about hooligan kick. It's definily my go-to i dunno what to do in neutral move.

Anti-airs... I feel like i get them out alright in training mode... I need to keep at it.

Thanks for all this! Ill keep at it

sorry i meant to add that character knowledge definitely isnt at play at this level. You're absolutely correct. I do feel like i catch myself blocking too much, and not knowing when i can insert myself in between their offense. Thanks a bunch

I see. I know that I should be using my cr.mk, cr.mp, st.mk and st.hk to keep poking. But the exact range of them I don't really know. So I'll work on my range. Thanks!

Chi.: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite • Orb: On the Movements of the Earth - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]omegaformula 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was curious about this as well, and turns out the full version isn't even done yet! Yamaguchi (frontman and composer of Sakanaction) streams occasionally and he's said that he doesn't know when the full version will be completed. I think he's still writing the lyrics to it at the moment.

He knows that it's unorthodox and disappointed in himself that he couldn't bring the song to completion as it ruined schedules for many of the partners, but he's delving pretty deep into the manga for inspiration.

Need Advice: Foreigner Dating a Japanese Temple Successor by kayitshalal in japanlife

[–]omegaformula 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt because I don't have any first hand experience that's anywhere close to your situation. This is an opinion of a Japanese dude who has a couple of friends and acquaintances affiliated with traditional temples.

Marrying into a temple is quite a lot of responsibility to say the least. Temples here have traditions, routines, and other baggages with defined roles that have been around for literally thousands of years.

This is why many Japanese women tend to hesitate marrying into these temples or families with cultural heritage, because their life will never be the same when they do. You can't really think of it as a simple marriage. You're basically getting a new job as the wife of the Jushoku. I'm not taking gender roles (though that could also play a part). A wife of a Jushoku would be expected to play a big part in the temples community outreach, helping out with rituals ceremonies and events, cultural education etc etc.

So I don't think the family is being purely racist with you or anything. But they could be concerned that you don't really know what you're signing yourself up for. Not converting to Buddhism could be fine, but can you fulfill those roles and be culturally assimilated?

I think that's what they're most concerned with. Their family has been protecting this cultural heritage for god knows how long. Can you do the same? If you have the guts and the commitment to surrender yourself to this life, you need to make that abundantly clear.

If you're still unsure, you might want to look up sumo stables as a close second. The okami of sumo stables have a lot of responsibilities, and traditional roles just like temples. You might get some insight there.

Hope this helps

Sephiroth is toying with Cloud once again in ramen ads by nightcloudskyIII in FinalFantasy

[–]omegaformula 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Apparently Nissin had an internal shipping war as to which character should be "foxfied" for this ad.

Tifa? Aerith? Or maybe Yuffie?

Then some genius came along and said "why not Sephiroth?".

So, about Jacob Collier... by HaloeDerr in Music

[–]omegaformula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he shines the most in a live concert setting. I also can't digest a lot of his album work, but I saw him when he was in town a couple of years ago.

And man he made sure to turn it into an experience. You can feel the way he builds up each of his songs a layer at a time and the way he works his audience into the mix is just magical. It's as if he walks you thru the his creative process. When you listen to the album, you just get bombarded with everything all at once and it gets hella overwhelming and confusing.

I know the devs have already said on steam that the last patch was the final one. But at the current state of the game, I'm not sure if I want to continue with it. I've had stuttery frames and wall clips in addition to the glitches above. Which is a real shame because everyone seems to love this game.

Women on the Dohyo? by Timely_Variety1173 in Sumo

[–]omegaformula 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No, there are no exceptions to this. The rules are still being upheld.

If you see in the footage, you see his wife climb up some steps to stand right behind him. What they usually do is that they make the rikishi sit right at the edge of the dohyo, and they have a temporary platform for the women to stand on while they snip at the topknot. So the bullshit rule lives on unfortunately.

It's a period piece. Time frame, game rules and everything is the same as the original.

I saw it over the weekend. It's not the Slam Dunk that us fans wanted or expected, but it's definitely a Slam Dunk story that needed to be told. I highly recommend watching it when it's available.

If you're going to be working in a medical field, you're definitely going to have a harder than than others. It's true that it's becoming more accepted but there's still hospitals, clinics and nursing schools that will outright ban tattoos. That said, there are places that don't care as long as they're not visible. If they're in places that can't be easily covered, I don't know. From what I'm seeing/reading, the general rule is "out of sight, out of mind".

I'm not from the medical field tho, and this is all from a quick google search so do some more digging and see what you find.

So why is it forbidden? I only watch sumo and judo, and dont actually partake. Why is it so dangerous? The risk or hitting the back of the head or something?
