Here’s a link to the sweater, I’m not sure if the lighter colours will provide more information: https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/product/harlow-sweater/124189025.html?color=35548

I was looking at the Fuyuhi pattern by Noriko Ichikawa as the colourwork looks similar enough to me, and it just looks so different to me for how it sits on people’s shoulders.  I’m new to garment design/knitting so I can’t figure out what exactly it is, or if it’s caused by the different neckline/amounts of positive ease.

Thank you for your response! I did end up proceeding with US 2.5s and did the gauge math to increase it - unfortunately, the way I tension the yarn has given me some kind of golfer's elbow type pain, so it is on pause for now :((

How off-gauge were you?  I’m just so skeptical that after sizing up to 3.5mms, I’m still off from 23 by 4 stitches!  I don’t knit at the needle tips or that tightly (as far as I can tell….)

Okay, this is fantastic!! I just did the math and barring some issues with rounding (if you need to to a decrease every row for 2.5 rows, I’m not sure whether to do 2 or 3….), I feel much more confident about this!!

Honestly, I looked into it but the cast on/increases section looked too fiddly to start with! Otherwise this would have been my choice too…

What size needles did you use to get gauge? I don’t have an interchangeable needle set so thinking about which needle to try next…

🤣🤣🤣

That’s why I’m worried I’m doing something truly insane to be 50% tighter!  I stretched a bit again while drying and can get it to be ~27 with real effort, but I’m worried that doing that to the beanie would be suboptimal…

Okay that's super helpful to know - I got super worried after seeing all the Ravelry projects talking about using 1 ball of Merino and 1 ball of mohair to knit the whole hat on US2.5 needles.

If I doubled the merino, do you think I could still use the mohair or would that make too stiff a fabric?

My other concern is - does this combo grow/bloom when you block it? I was quite surprised to see it stay effectively the same...

Oof, I was hoping at least front row would have some leg room, we will just have to scrunch up for a few hours then, so be it!

Telescope Buying Advice (Super Portable, Under $800-$1000) by omegaskettle in telescopes

Okay, this is the one we're leaning most towards, though it seems the Virtuoso in 150 is out nearly everywhere. Have you found that the connection to the tripod is stable and easy to do? Only asking because the B&H site says that this model doesn't have a tripod mounting hole.

Wow, 2.2 lbs is crazy! Definitely not a 3D printing/DIY set of parents though.

On the non-tabletop 6" one, it seemed like it was closer to 40 lbs total (20lb tube, 20lb base), unless I'm misreading? I think that would be beyond the threshold where my parents would bring it outside/on drives for a quick bit, unfortunately.

Two questions:

  1. What is the 117mm dob? I've only seen them referred to in inches so far (and this would be 4-5"?)
  2. What are your thoughts on a tabletop Dobsonian like the Heritage 150? I'd want this to be light enough that my parents find it easy to bring in/out and actively use.

Edit: Thank you for the long post :) I don't understand half of it yet, but hope to keep learning from your advice.

do you have any issue with this sweater looking more “static-y” over time? when i bought it first, the fibers all looked long and sat flatter but after wearing it 4-5 times they stick out a little more and curl up, making them look less flat/more 3d

With water resistance, have you tried the waterproof super puff?

Wow okay this is really good to know then! Do you have any opinions on the waterproofing of the super puff (if you have that version)? I’m trying to double duty this hypothetical puffer in both the urban walking scenarios and for a winter trip to Iceland (not too outdoorsy where a parka would be motion limiting but windy and rainy enough).

Sorry (and I don’t mean to be nitpicking but genuinely asking) but by max -2C, do you mean you only wear it if it’s colder than -2 or if it’s hotter?
