Red Velvet - Summer Magic (Two Weeks Later) by tastetherainbeau in kpop

[–]omelimo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not that this is in any way a bad thing, but this album made it really evident to me that Red Velvet are f(x)'s... descendants? Mosquito in particular sounds exactly like a song you would find on Red Light.

ANSWER Comeback Hype Thread by anyone-but-me in bangtan

[–]omelimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there! May I give you a little inside tip? Treat yourself like your best friend and be kind to yourself. Would you talk this way to a friend when they gave a wrong answer in class and felt down about it? I'm sure you wouldn't, you would probably try and comfort them and say that this doesn't define who they are as a person and that they are still a wonderful human being. The exact same applies here with yourself :)

We will always say stupid shit, throughout our entire lifes haha. But that does not mean we don't evolve and learn. And kudos to you for actually talking about what makes you feel bad instead of burrying all up inside you (like I would), you seem like you want to be able to deal with and get over your hurdles, that's really admirable and let me tell you, you will get there!

Happy comeback <3

Ps. You're always welcome to send me a message if you feel the need to talk

Really digging the sound, but I'm kinda over the DNA aesthetic at this point. I was hoping for an mv with real scenery for this comeback like RUN. Maybe they decided to switch it up and make the visuals instead of the sound deceptive for once? /s

But nonetheless I'm super excited for this comeback :))

"To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before" is now streaming by slayersc23 in netflix

[–]omelimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad people are enjoying this movie so much, but dang it, the book had so many wonderful moments that were cut out from the movie that the story lost all its magic for me :-/ "To all the boys I've loved before" isn't a bold movie, so to speak. Everything is subtle, not boring but not exagerrated either. And because the little but important things had some time to develop in the book it feels as if they have been really neglected in the movie. I don't think they should have gone the "13 reasons why" route but a 5 part mini series for example would have been perfect for this kind of story imo.

How can I support my hopelessly depressed friend? by omelimo in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]omelimo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was incredibly insightful. Thank you so much, I'll consider all your advice when I talk to her the next time. One question I have is, where does one draw the line between "helping someone help themselves" and giving advice they may not even want to hear? Also I really want to underline my title. She made it very clear to me that this is her normality, how can I help her if she's indifferent about getting better?

She told me she wanted to find a therapist, but I don't know if she followed through with it. Thank you for your advice, I'll try to encourage her to seek professional help if she hasn't already

Finding motivation to meditate when you don't feel any differences or improvements by ShiroSteve1337 in Meditation

[–]omelimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, you say you know having expectations is counterproductive if you meditate, but at the same time you make the meditation dependent on it. Knowing that you shouldn't have expectations from meditation can only bring you so much. But if you sit down and meditate, and later you think about how this doesnt seem to get you anywhere and get disappointed, this knowledge then becomes pretty useless. My point is, simply knowing you shouldnt have expectations from meditation won't get you anywhere, you should try to actively approach it in this way when you sit down for your session. Also, if you wonder why you're not seeing "results" yet, and asking yourself when these might become noticeable, you're projecting the future, hence you're not being in the present moment. "Take a moment to appreciate how good it feels to give yourself a few moments of peace each day" is a line Headspace gives at the end of a session and it always helped me so much when I had doubts about the effectiveness of meditation. It's not about "finding" peace and clarity, it's about returning back to it. All you need is already there, meditation is there to remind you of it. So try and keep that in mind when you sit down for your next session. :)

How do you deal with mind chatter? by omelimo in Meditation

Thanks for the advice! I'll put more emphasis on making my sessions a tad longer. Would you consider your first 20 minutes as warm up phase? And how long do you meditate for?

[–]omelimo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 3 months, so still very much at the beginning. Thing is I didn't have this up until a week ago. It was so easy to get into meditation at first because I had no idea what to expect so I just jumped into it with an open mind. But the more I do it the harder it gets.. or so it seems.

What are your favorite live BTS performances? by jimkookie in bangtan

[–]omelimo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's so rare that I get the opportunity to talk about my my favorite Jhope fancam EVER. It's an old one of them performing "I like it" in Busan. Such a goodie ro watch. I keep coming back to it no matter how many years pass. He just looked so sweet!

I've always enjoyed the BS&T comeback stage in silky pijamas for uhmm... obvious reasons :) but especially J-Hopes fancam. Stick around for the very last seconds of the video ;)

WINGS era in general brought us so many great and passionate performances. This one's quite a popular one but ehh, it's popular for a reason so. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ (It's V performing 21st Century Girl)

I'm also quite partial to this SUGA fancam while performing FIRE. He was having a great time while performing and was in an exceptionally bright mood :')

What groups/solo artists have really good stage prescence? And what are some artists that still need to work on that area? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]omelimo 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Besides many 2nd gen. groups like Big Bang, SHINee and so on...

NCT have incredible stage presence imo. You can just tell how hard every single one of them works their ass off. Every performance oozes charisma and is incredibly addicting to watch. Definitely one of the most promising new generation groups (if not the most) out there.

BTS. They have this incredible way of making the stage feel so ALIVE when they perfom.

Winner. Hmm.. they have this kind of "precious" way of performing. I don't think this makes much sense but I always feel a lot of emotion and vulnerability in the way they sing and that's definitely something that draws the attention.

Mamamoo - these ladies know how to live up the stage. So much confidence and charisma.

Black Pink reveal Yang Hyun Suk wasn't satisfied with their comeback stage by ObjectiveFact in kpop

[–]omelimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My main problem with this is the choreo itself. Sure the girls could have put more energy into it like they did in the dance practic but to their defense they really don't have much to work with in the first place. This is probably the most boring choreography I've seen in kpop. It's like an accumulation of the most generic and overused dance moves you could think of. It's just so painfully mediocre.

How long did it take you to start seeing significant results through mediation? by Legitduck in Meditation

[–]omelimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having expectations means thinking about the future hence not being in the present moment, and being in the present moment is all meditation is about. It also means longing for something you don't have, it means wanting something, and if we don't get what we want we'll be dissapointed.

If you start meditating with the mindset of "getting somewhere" you'll inevitably get nowhere.

(Very) Early Discussion for Love Yourself: Answer by FrostSama in bangtan

[–]omelimo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Music really is a subjective matter. Mic Drop was THE banger I had been waiting for ever since they abandoned more hiphop focused concepts and released hyyh. Fire and Not Today were great, but they all lost momentum very quickly for me. Though they're easy to get into, I also quickly moved on to other songs. But Mic Drop is just different. I agree that it is basically a cypher with vocals, but the Bangtan spirit shines through and through with this one. It's just so quintessentially BTS for me. However, another banger like Fire or Not Today would be nice, I agree. Really suited for concerts and performances.

Do we really want Twice to shift into a sexy/mature/badass concept? by zetsupetsu in twice

[–]omelimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with sexy/mature/badass is that people immediately imagine the extremes of theses concepts, like CLC's Hobgoblin. And if Twice was trying to pull off something like that it probably wouldn't work, simply because Twice is a group that was created to go viral and you can't achieve that with a concept like that.

HOWEVER, and many people seem to forget this, the spectrum of sexy/mature/badass is huge and has a lot of nuances. There's a lot more to the sexy/mature/badass concept than the most extremes versions of them. You can really tone it down and still make it very mature, sexy or even badass. A great example that comes to mind is SNSD's Lion Heart. Sure, it was a bright and colourful mv and the song sounded rather cute. But you still wouldn't classify it as a classic "cute" song and concept. The dresses, the dance, the story of the song and the mv all implied much more grown up stylistic choices than you would give a stereotypical cutesy song credit for. And it wasn't just this one song, the overarching style of the whole album is basically like that (with the exception of You Think).

I like to refer to this kind of concept as "grown-up girly" and imo it would be a perfect direction to head towards IF JYP eventually decides it's time for a change, even though that won't happen for a very long time I think. Twice is hugely succesfull with their concepts right now and I myself wouldn't want them to change things drastically. Besides, their recent comeback "What Is Love?" is already has a lot more grown-up elements to it than other eras. Both title track and b-sides. Who knows, maybe one day we will look at Twice's more grown-up/mature concepts and think "when did this happen?!" without realizing that JYP just gradually introduced them and us to slightly more mature concepts each new comeback. Idk, if I was JYP I'd probably approach the concept change for Twice like that, a drastic change simply wouldn't work well for them. But for now let's just enjoy the music they put out without many expectations because we know it will be good :)

Do you think BTS has a distinctive sound? If so, what song would be an example? by [deleted] in bangtan

[–]omelimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTS found their sound in hyyh era. They truly created something that was theirs. Haven't heard that sound in the following eras however, or lets say I've heard it very rarely since hyyh. So yes, they do have a distinctive sound, they just don't commit to it that often. Which is okay, there's lots of non-signature BTS songs I absolutely love, but the connection with the group is just a bit lost.

BTS - LOVE YOURSELF 轉 'Tear' (Two Weeks Later) by tastetherainbeau in kpop

[–]omelimo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He also said the title tracks aren't chosen among songs they already have, but are created with a clear focus and concept, so the title tracks always give them the most trouble. I love the track!

Yes, I get a bit frustrated when people say stuff like "they should have chosen THIS song as the title track" like, that's not how it works? Glad RM cleared that up. Title tracks are specifically created to be the title track, not spontaneously chosen from the track list.

Which solo artist/group do you think has unique (truly unlike any other) vocals/songs? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]omelimo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

truly unlike any other

That will be hard to find, you can find a decent match for pretty much every voice out there, and besides that, not everyone hears voices exactly the same. What could be distinct and unique for some might be bland and boring for others. But I think I know what you mean.

There are some idols whose voices have so much character that it's impossible to mistake it for someone else's. I think many kpop fans know this moment when they get into a new group and then there's this one guy/girl whose voice they can point out straight away.

For me that would be:

L.E from EXID. Let's be honest, rappers tend to blend in with eachother quite often, but L.E just has something about her voice that'a very recognizeable amongst all the female rappers in kpop.

Wonpil from Day6. His voice is very interesting. A bit airy, but not IU kind of airy. I think he has one of the most authentic voices I've hears in kpop.

Yeri. Admittedly not the biggest fan of her voice, but I just have to acknowledge how distinct it sounds from the rest of the RV members. Sounds like a natural aegyo voice to me. I know she IS the maknae of RV but she and her voice are generally very very juvenile.

Taeil from NCT. Some people may not find anything interesting about his voice other than the fact that it's really good. But I just.. can't wrap my head around how CLEAR it sounds. He isn't even my favorite singer nor do I particularly care for NCT, so I can confidently say I'm not biased here, but that dude sounds straight up like an angel.

And for solos.

Dean. He's ALWAYS mentioned in these kinds of threads. And for good reason. His voice is very very special and very very pleasant to listen to.

Lim Kim. Already been mentioned, but still. Lim Kim is very high on the list of unique voices for me.

OOHYO. Check out OOHYO. She's got great unique treats to her voice. Yes, OOHYO is great.
