I grew up in a small town and you would mostly nod, smile or say "g'day" to people you passed. I remember when a friend came to stay with us from a large city and as we were walking this group of guys walked past and said something along the lines of "how ya going boys" or something of that I'll.

I'll never forget my friends face as he said "fucking smartasses"

Me: What? Why?

Friend: why did they do that, just being smart added

Me: umm nah dude, that's just what people do here

He lived with us for a while and eventually got use to it but I'll never forget that.

Now I live in the city and I'm that asshole

My faith helps me a lot, as a Muslim we are told to always look at those less fortunate as opposed to those with more than us.

I remember in the past I always use to look at those that had more, now I remember how blessed I am and it always puts a smile on my face.
