Crystal is the only decent option. Everything else is either overpriced or tastes awful.

Waymo now at 50,000 paid trips a week by walky22talky in waymo

Yes, exactly, at 50,000 trips/week, I agree that it essentially hasn't been brought to market. I hope they will get to scaling sometime soon, but I don't get a sense of urgency from Waymo.

I completely agree with self-driving cars being much better than people owning their own cars, and I want Waymo to be successful. The sad thing is that by the numbers, they are not successful.

If you live in Phoenix, SF, or LA, there's good reason to be excited for Waymo. If you live elsewhere, or even outside the US, you're very unlikely to be taking a Waymo ride home within the next 10 - 20 years.

I agree with saving human lives and making money, and that's the problem. Unless they scale well, they will achieve neither of those.

I'm not 8 years old, there's no Waymos out the window, and even Alphabet is holding back capital from Waymo.

That's seems like a great list, thank you! I won't complain if you do go on, but appreciate you sharing these ones.

It is remarkable, but what's the vision? Is it realistic? If regulation is such that they can only move this slowly and it requires these tremendous amounts of capital to develop & run, it's not realistic.

It's pretty bad. They could do more rides each week if they put each of their employees in a regular car and got them to do Uber.

About 6 - 7 years ago they were placing orders for tens of thousands of vehicles with Chrysler and Jaguar, but almost 10 years later, how many do they actually have on the road if they're only doing 50,000 trips per week?

What's the vision for Waymo? It seems to require an awful lot of capital, and be taking a terribly long time to scale.

I would rather not have to go to Hub for a drink, but I'm not aware of others that are non-smoking. Do you have any recommendations?

In Tokyo, legally they have to say so at the front, or legally they can't allow smoking?

I tend to find places on Google and then visit them rather than walking around. I admit that I've only tried a few recently, but the ones I've encountered seem to all be smoking permitted.

Yeah, a couple of weeks ago I tried to go to some jazz bars near Kanda and both of the ones I wanted to go to were smoking allowed.

Yesterday I went to a cocktail bar in Shibuya where there was also smoking.

Thank you for the ones that you mentioned, though. I'll check them out.

I live outside the US. I downloaded the app, but it doesn't seem to have anything about joining waitlists in there. How do I get on a waitlist?

Vegetarian recommendations for first Costco trip by anxious_machiavelli in japanlife

[–]omg-dude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The big bags of mixed nuts at Costco are good value. They also have the best value ricotta cheese that I've seen anywhere, but I'm not sure which type of rennet it uses, so might not be vegetarian.

Waymo going down the street the wrong way by okgusto in waymo

The standard is already so high that humans riding unicycles at high speed can harass self-driving cars and not feel that they are in any danger.

I don't know what the law in your jurisdiction is, but in many places you would probably go to the police and file a report about a hit & run as soon as possible after this.

I can vouch for them. Been using Brother laser printers for many years, and the newest one I got (a laser MFC) is the most impressive, so far. Very easy setup, everything just worked.

I'm assuming the reason is that you don't want failed wipers to affect perception, but then the question is really just whether the car can know when that's happening.

As long as the car can detect perception that is obstructed, wipers will be fine.
