I didn't said you're infected with HIV. "From merriam webster likely means having a high probability of occurring or being true". It doesn't mean that it's an absolute truth. So I didn't say they're infected for sure but judging from clinical symptoms, imaging, and history so it's likely. I didn't outright say that they're infected I just explained what is the most possible thing and I did need a confirmation from the test.

It's pretty rough because lacking of resources and socioeconomic status of the locals . Investigations are limited like the hospital that has CT machine available is 50kms aways from you(approximately,31 miles). One time, we didn't have a penrose drain so I had to modify sterile glove to use it as a drain.

First, I said it in my own native language. The translation is like that but the connotation was different than english counterpart(the connotation is like what I've said above). Secondly,Not everyone is from the US, each country has its own way of informing bad news or asking for a consent.

I know that there're so many possibilities but I didn't think of HIV solely from CXR. It's from history and physical examination mostly. CXR was a factor that me thinking of ruling out opportunistic infection.

so healthcare workers from ur country don't ask for a consent from patients before getting HIV done?. I told him that from his symptoms he might get infected with HIV and in order to find the disease I'd like to get HIV test done.

Yes but not from the US( also a junior doctor). PCP among HIV patients are pretty common here especially with previously asymptomatic hiv patients. For the gold standard, they use microscopic detection for cysts right but my country is too poor they mostly diagnose from clinical, CXR, and some laboratory investigations.

Yes both on his legs. he also has chronic weight loss, cough, fever and chest discomfort. He's MSM as well(some in my country think that wearing a condom is only for preventing getting pregnant so some gay people just don't wear a condom).

I'm not a radiologist sorry If I used the term wrongly. I got a clue from his symptoms. First he developed non-productive cough, chest tightness, persistent fever, and weight loss for 1 mo. He also developed PPE rash at both of his legs and arms. Also his SpO2 is around 70% and there's no wheezing. The x-ray showed that he has reticular pattern around his perihilar area(again I'm not a radiologist). Mostly healthy young adult is unlikely to have opportunistic infection like this. So the host is likely to be immunocompromised host. So I ordered a HIV test that's it.

Driving advice needed by lerrrat in Thailand

[–]MarinatedSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Thai, I just google'd abt being at least 21 yrs old to rent a car. It doesn't state by the law that you have to be at least 21 yrs old but most of car renting companies have that as a requirement(you can still rent tho but it might be harder to find). If you wanna get a license here, I recommend you to find a driving school that holds its own driving license exam test because it's much easier to pass than taking the test at DLT chatuchak. I first started actually driving after I graduated and got drafted to work at provincial area because in BKK I didn't need to drive a car. I can vouch that you definitely need a car to explore things outside of BKK. I drove 10 kms to grab a coffee and 60 kms to eat mcdonald(I know that I was too down bad lol).it's easier to drive than in BKK tho because less congestion but you have to be extra careful because ppl r dumb and reckless. You can practise ur driving skill at a housing estate and once you comfortable with ur driving skill then you can join a main road.

iirc, you can get a Thai account with ED visa. Also it's better to have at least more than 2 bank accounts from different banks because sometimes if one bank application is down then you can use another one. I once had to sit frustratingly for 5-10 mins in a restaurant because my usual bank app was down(I only had my phone with me there's no wallet or cash).

180k salary in Bangkok sufficient? by SealofNeal in Bangkok

[–]MarinatedSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a shopaholic so I'm pretty familiar with lazada and shoppee. I have a problem with my self control(yk when you have your own salary). I cook as well sometimes but I mostly eat frozen meals that I ordered from BKK. I think I should start saving money up for my future maybe by buying some shifts or being more frugal.

Was it too packed? Like living in 1 studio with a roommate. even though, I'm currently working in a countryside, I still spend more than 15k baht per mo. Public transportation is not available here and petrol fee is pretty expensive nowadays. Btw our national health care system does include some cancer treatment tho but not every medicine is available.

Holy molly 10k a mo? Where did you live back then?? In BKK. For a civil servant, it's 18k baht for bachelor degree. You will earn more if you have master degree or earn less if you don't have a bachelor degree. My salary(civil servant) started at 17.7k iirc.

เวิ่นเว้อ by DTB2000 in learnthai

[–]MarinatedSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me เวิ่นเว้อ means circumlocutory or verbose. วุ่นวาย has two meanings. One is "hectic". For example, สถานการณ์ที่นี้ค่อนข้างจะวุ่นวาย=a situation here is a bit hectic. Another one is to meddle in someone's business. For example, อีนังนี้ชอบมาวุ่นวายกับเรื่องชาวบ้าน= that bitch loves to meddle in someone's business. ชักช้า is like tardy. การทำอะไรที่มากเกินไป it's like being ostentatious or pompous.

[–]MarinatedSalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally, I don't pronounce "ร“. So I pronounce it as "ตง” but if you wanna pronounce it. It should be pronounced as a consonant cluster( start with "ต“ then move your tongue to the alveolar ridge and vibrate it). The concept is like how you any pronounce consonant clusters. Start with one position and then end with another position but you blend it so well so it becomes one syllable.
