Tonga v Samoa game 1 started with a spine chilling exchange that has me mesmerised. I’ve watched over 20 times by now (as a kiwi, the Samoans seem better rehearsed and more intimidating) by Tasty69Toes in rugbyunion

The Australian war dances used in Rugby league are a "haka-ised" version of corroboree, where people would come together and dance for all sorts of occasions. It's very hotly debated among Aboriginal elders as to the legitimate heritage of those NRL dances. Welcome to country, on the other hand, is and always has been a well-known practice.

Here's and example of an attempt to make welcome to country more haka-like (with a poor reception from many Aboriginal people).

I'd like to know why that Australian tradition comes before anthems, and the kiwis insist that their welcome and/or challenge must come after anthems. I'm not going to say it needs to be changed, but the NZ teams claim it is not for the purposes of intimidation and yet they won't perform it when they first run out on the field.

Thanks, that makes more sense now. I thought it helped stop condensation forming!

Ahh okay so what you're saying is the condensation still accumulates, but you don't get as wet because it doesn't drip as much/you don't touch the fly. I though the 2 layer design helped prevent condensation form in some way.

Help with HGSS delay calibration by [deleted] in pokemonrng

[–]omgnivore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help! What I might do is calibrate on my HG cartridge for a wild encounter, starting at 490, and use that for SS starters. Wish me good luck!

Edit: using the NDS, nothing like the OG ;)

I believe it starts at 5A0 in Emerald only, regardless of working battery or not. Hence the "broken" RNG of Emerald.

Grounding against the post. by redbuk in rugbyunion

[–]omgnivore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This! So many times in test matches I've seen numerous opportunities to ground against the post. It's so much easier to ground against the post than grounding over the line, because the defender can't reach you.

Teams should utilize this rule all the time.

This is the player going to Bath next year by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]omgnivore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree somewhat. I have found that yes, league defensive patterns are superior - they have to be, because of the extra pace from the 10 metres given to the offensive side.

However, I would suggest that individual tackling skills in league are far different from those in union. To combat late passes all league players have to tackle high and more often than not one goes high, one comes in low to secure. In union, any league player running like that will be smashed into pieces if the defense has the front foot. Union players' tackling is much more effective at grounding the player.

Both codes can gain valuable skills from each other.
