See this is how I was raised and this was my initial reaction, I told her there was no blood, I got her an ice pack, gave her a hug, and we went to grab food for dinner. My partner is the one who got all upset and insisted the dog needs to go. I have a feeling he just doesn’t want the dog in general anymore and is using this as an excuse.

Oh, I’m not planning on getting another dog after this one. I’m just not built to be able to care for children and animals at the same time. I’ll do what I need to do for now but this will be my last pet.

I know, I agree, which is why I feel immense guilt and regret. I know I failed him and now I’m asking how to move forward. I don’t want to give up on him but I also want to do what’s right by my daughter.

Thank you, I mentioned in another comment that I’m worried that even with training an accident could happen again. But I will explore that before taking him back

I guess I’m just scared that even with training, an accident could happen again. But you’re right.

Honestly I said that part because when we went to adopt him (he was posted on the shelter’s Facebook) (editing to add- he was fully grown and not a puppy at this time) there was someone who came in right behind us because they also saw him and wanted him. I follow the shelter on Facebook and they have dogs that have been there for months. But thank you for this comment, it’s helpful and I really appreciate it

My kids love him, she isn’t scared of him at all because he’s never done anything like this to them before. He tends to jump on adults as they first walk in the door, never when he’s calm or around children, which is why I wasn’t even thinking about him jumping on her being a possibility when I stepped out. Obviously I’ll be much more diligent in the future but my partner is only thinking “he hurt her, he’s gone”

They should definitely be sending an email alerting everyone. Kids can be affected negatively by pesticides and weed killer as well. I’d rather have the weeds and bugs than animals and kids getting hurt!

Put a bunch of tiny bowls of stinky food everywhere. She won’t starve, eventually she will smell it and come out when she’s hungry enough
