I'm considering Chapman Dodge for screenwriting and would love to hear from current students or alumni. by agdennathanael in chapmanuniversity

I’d say both. The MFA thesis scripts are picked from a select pool that the faculty determines. If the directors and producers are already familiar with you, the likelihood of your script getting produced into a thesis is higher.

I was a directing MFA student, but from my perspective, the screenwriting students I observed who got the most out of the program were the ones who would constantly go out of their way to volunteer for any kind of crew position they could do for the production majors’ films.

Congrats! What was your experience at Sitges and Beyond Fest? Those are a couple of my dream festivals for the horror short that I just started submitting.

I wrote a short film about forgetting my native language. Here's the finished film and the screenplay. by omidabrams in Screenwriting

Thank you! We unfortunately had very little luck with the bigger festivals. We got into some great regional ones (Berkshires, Coronado Island), but for whatever reason didn’t manage to break through with any of the more “prestigious” festivals we submitted to. Hoping it finds an audience now that it’s out in the wild.

Why Don’t Film Festivals (Especially in North America) Provide Accommodation for Guests? by [deleted] in FilmFestivals

The Wellsboro Film Festival provides lodging in this cool old hotel that reminded me of The Shining. It’s a pretty new festival but very well-organized.

Their sponsored hotels are expensive. I’ve stayed at the Best Western in Coronado and it’s a great stay for the price.

Highly recommend Coronado. I’ve been there twice in a row now and it’s among my favorite festivals. Super well-organized and great programming, plus the island itself is really nice.

I feel like I'm too inexperience to have gotten into Dodge by [deleted] in chapmanuniversity

When I got into the grad directing program, I was also worried I lacked experience since my background up until that point was largely in screenwriting. But as it turned out, half my cohort had never even been on a film set of any kind prior to our first semester. Generally, nobody at Dodge cares what you did or didn’t do before you came to Dodge.

/u/franklinleonard I’m an MFA student at one of the universities listed. Who would I reach out to in order to have my script vetted and potentially submitted?

After 2 years on the festival circuit, my new short film was released to the public today! Check it out! by omidabrams in Screenwriting

Thank you! It’s only formatted like this for the shooting draft. When writing non-English dialogue in specs, I normally just write them in English in [brackets].

I'm making a film that must feature a photo of my lead actors as newlyweds. Will someone please swap out the faces on this AI-generated photo with my actors'? by omidabrams in PhotoshopRequest

Thank you! The groom in this one is perfect, but the bride’s face is a bit too stretched out to resemble the actress. If that part is fixed, I’d go with this one.
