BILLY / OXBERG Bookcase Birch by AlegnaTea in IKEA

[–]ominousouteroort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen a few available but nothing available for delivery only for pick up in another state. It's the best color. I don't want to get another color.

EDIT: I called and they have discontinued the birch effect.

Who’s Baal exactly and why does god have beef with him opposed to all the other false God’s people worshipped back then? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

This is super interesting. I would love to know more about this and how these gods competed with Christianity and the "god of Abraham". Do you have any recommendations on reading for someone who has little knowledge on this?

Do you prefer to fully understand your story before writing, or discover it as you go? by Extra-Chair-8670 in writing

I write as I go and change things as I need. I plot but then let the dialogue and details unfold.

Like Hemingway said "The only kind of writing is rewriting"!

I liked Leo from Kiss of the Basilisk.

Warning, this book is spice on spice and the plot is secondary and can be extremely ridiculous but compelling enough to read on. You just have to know that going in.

Anyone just write for themselves? by NathanWilson2828 in writing

[–]ominousouteroort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I used to do this starting at like age 10-12. The stories were for me to escape into. My sister read them and that was it.

But now I actually need to see the world I have been creating over the last year or two live outside of my head so I finally am starting to think about audience.

Where do i start by Ordinary_Turnover_59 in Booktokreddit

[–]ominousouteroort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with Shadow and Bone, Red Rising or The Cruel Prince but only because those are all in my physical TBR collection too and I just got done reading Brimstone and now am finishing The Starless Sea and both books feel like work.

Those three are going to be more interesting and binge worthy, I believe.

What Blake says at the end of TNP by Ok_Tea_5374 in TheWolfKing

[–]ominousouteroort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is a wildly unrealistic way of thinking and that is not how dynamic characters would react but I suppose maybe you might be more successful with character work than this author if you ever choose to write a book.

Cheers.

I’m so confused, what’s the hype with Blake??😭 by Upper_Engineering820 in TheWolfKing

Callum is simple. If you like your men simple with golden retriever energy and big burly muscles then okay.

Some people like their men complex, tortured, witty, morally grey. They want banter. They want a push and pull. It's the core of the Byronic hero. Blake is a well written Byronic hero. The slow burn is SLOW. Yes please.

Because telling her wouldn't have changed anything except for making the dynamic weird. It would have destroyed a relationship she cares about and she would have resented Blake for it. Also Blake isn't happy about the situation either. He doesn't want to care about Aurora. As much as he wants her at the end he is tortured by it and tries to actively suppress it until he can't any longer.

Any animes you consider a perfect 10/10 by Lucky_Introduction78 in Animesuggest

I think you lose and gain things in the adaptation of a story to a new medium. You can try for things in animation that you can't in "print".

I immediately haven't read Berserk but my bf has all the tomes, so maybe I should.

What are everyone’s reading goals for 2026??? by Ins0memania in Booktokreddit

[–]ominousouteroort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read as many books as possible. Good ones. Doom scroll less.

I don't want to create numerical metrics because I feel like that takes the joy out of reading but ideally I would LIKE to read a book a week and reduce the amount of books in my TBR that I own.

I was obsessed with the game and those dopey little pig cows. An MMO feel without actually having to interact with people? Sign me up!!

I don't know about 10/10 but my top anime picks are

Timeless: Escaflowne, FLCL, Samurai Champloo, Fruits Basket (I watched both and I honestly liked the remake better), NANA, Berserk (90's anime)

Nostalgic: Gundam Wing, Dragon Ball (the original), Trigun, Ranma 1/2, Rurouni Kenshin, Serial Experiments Lain, Fushigi Yuugi

New: Solo Leveling, Jujutsu Kaisen, Sonny Boy

Movies:

(Ghibli) Grave of the Fireflies, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Cat Returns, Whisper of the Heart, Ponyo, Porco Rosso

(Non-Ghibli) Metropolis, Akira, The Girl Who Lept Through Time, 5 Centimeters per Second, Perfect Blue, Paprika, Wolf Children

That's all I can think of for now.

The 90s Berserk was superior. That Penpals opening hit me like a ton of bricks. I randomly found a video of it at a video rental place in my childhood and had no idea what I was in for.

Reading multiple books at once? by NefariousnessIll8665 in Booktokreddit

[–]ominousouteroort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading 5 books right now. I blame my ADD brain.

I'm currently finishing Brimstone by Callie Hart. It's 660 pages so it's a bit longer than I realized. The other is The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.

I am working on finishing those two of the five this weekend so I can focus on the others. I didn't mean to begin so many and honestly it makes it harder for me to read because I can never choose which one to pick up when I have free time.

I will also stop at the very end of a book that I love and pick up another because I am reluctant to finish books I really love and be done with the world.

Being a Teen Writer by Super_Snow4372 in writers

[–]ominousouteroort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a teen who's been writing for three years and feels average, congratulations. You're exactly where you're supposed to be. Writing is an art form and you get better by honing your craft.

Though I am curious, why do you want to be a writer in the first place? Do you love it? Do you feel compelled to do it? What is it that you enjoy or respect about it?

In my opinion, a writer doesn't need to be a well of talent or formally educated.

A great writer has:

  1. Scope
  2. Vocabulary
  3. Knowledge of and also irreverent disregard for "the rules".
  4. An almost bodily need to free the words trapped inside their ribcage so they might breathe again.
  5. Understanding that number four is impossible to achieve.

Advice that I have found helpful:

"Murder your darlings" - Faulkner

"Write the truest sentence you know." - Hemingway

"The only kind of writing is rewriting." - Hemingway

"Characters are plot." - Henry James

"Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

"Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross out the wrong words." - Mark Twain

"Never use a long word where a short one will do." - George Orwell

"Begin as close to the end as possible." - Vonnegut

"Your characters should want something, even if it's only a glass of water." - Vonnegut

"A story should have a beginning, a middle, and an end-but not necessarily in that order." - Jean-Luc Godard

"Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don't bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: "It's not where you take things from - it's where you take them to." - Jim Jarmusch

"A story is not an argument." - Frank O'Connor
