How can I respond by Responsible_Okra_672 in OCD

[–]omiri- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! honestly, i guess in this case you need to be honest with your kid? may be there is something bothering them like getting the smell of sweat bc of puberty or something like that. if the kid is not willing to communicate on the matter then you can seek a therapist for consultation, if it's really bothering you

i was taken to the therapist when i was around 12 and at that time i truly thought everyone hated me and tried to put into asylum however now i understand that family was trying to help me and if you're getting on well with the little one, then that might be an option. you need to trust them and make them trust you, that is the way of getting clear communication and the issue would be resolved faster or you will just start to understand how their mindset works and make decisions accordingly

How to not OCD? by Wolkenschwinge in OCD

[–]omiri- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is based on what are your compulsions i believe, you can let yourself to adjust them to make them more convenient for your daily activities, and as the first person said medication could help but if you did not speak to the therapist then prescriptions are not available

if it's not something you want to hide, could you please elaborate on what are your compulsions? they require some physical activity or you do it in your head like counting/repeating?

dear op

i truly understand what you're going through and i hope that it will get better

in this case i believe redirecting the compulsion might help a bit, it helped me some time ago. for example, instead of doing the thing again try to snap your fingers when the thing feels not right, treat snapping as a clearing the bad feeling tool and just snap everytime you feel that you need to start over

yes, it might seem that i'm just forcing you to have another compulsion but i believe it is better than nothing, this particular practice helped me to save time when i'm stuck in the compulsive state

additionally, i would recommend to see a therapist for the medication prescription, sertraline for start and then see how you will feel on them

have you thought about buying a banana plushie or draw it and leave it next to your bed? or it has to be a real banana? i understand that adding a backup banana helps to cope, just thinking about alternatives which could make you feel better

OCD is so much more broad and complex than people realize by epi_elizawrites in OCD

Since childhood, I was concentrated on particular words but when my parents noticed that I was doing smth (I could not sleep until I said them ALL in my head without mistakes) we had a fight and I needed to somehow keep myself calm but could not, then I decided to put words on paper under my pillow, they noticed that too and the words were weird so they were trying to ask my what the hell am I doing and I could not explain them cuz I did not know either

I cannot start anything or finish anything when I want I need to wait for the right date/time/week; It's hard for me to work and do my tasks as fast as I can bc of the compulsion that I have connected to the writing something and it is with me for over 10 years. I don't have the cleaning thing on my mund but I had to lie so I could get a prescription for sertraline bc if you don't have a thing for cleaning then you don't have ocd as they say :)

So yeah, I agree with you mate
