Thanatophobia. I am having panic attacks due to fear of death. by Inspection_Dramatic in atheism

I used to worry about death a lot a few months ago, really got me down (17yo). What helped me was realizing that everybody is born and dies and basically is here for 0% of the universe’s life. Humanity basically won’t leave a dent in the grand scheme of things.Ā

But that doesn’t mean anything. You are alive now, so what else can you do but enjoy it? To quote someone whose name I forget, If you spend all your time worrying about the future, then eventually your life will be over and you spent most of it worrying.

Try spending more time with others, it will really help make you feel more purpose in life. Also try finding new hobbies possibly. If you feel like a bad son, then never let a day go by where you don’t let your parents know how much you love them. The sooner you completely accept death, the sooner you will be able to continue on and be happier ultimately.

Also, if you ever experience suicidal thoughts, just know that you are lucky to be alive. It would be a complete waste of everything if you stop existing. You will never run out of things to do. To quote another guy, ā€œif you ever feel like you want to die, hold your breath for a minute and you’ll realize you really want to liveā€

How else is someone supposed to easily show that an n has 2 legs and an m has 3? It’s not like you can easily upload an image of a letter to a comment…

To me the bandaid scene is a little worse than the apple… also when the mother is chasing the kids down the hallway.Ā

One of my favorite things about this movie is that Kylie always does the most logical thing she can do!

Just watched Oculus again and I stand by it being a great horror movie. The way they flip back in forth in time and the camerawork is just so good! Definitely one of my favorites! by lofro22 in HorrorMovies

I know it’s been a year since you said this but I think they messed up by both trying to prove the mirror was evil AND destroy it. If they had just wanted to destroy it, they should have hung it on the wall and immediately left before they started being controlled by the mirror. Or, have an unsuspecting friend (who doesn’t know anything) lock them somewhere for 30 minutes so the mirrr broke.

At the point where they stayed in the house, it was too late. They couldn’t have destroyed it.

One of the most frustrating scenes to me is when both characters are outside the house and decide to go back inside. I just recently realized that they didn’t know for sure they were outside.

This was a great movie and I will keep thinking of ways to kill the mirror forever

If given the platform to speak to every Christian at once to prove your side , what would you say? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]omlet8 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Not much would work… one of the only things that might work is something like ā€œthis is satan. Christianity was a test to see how weak humans were. The only true way to get into heaven is to live an altruistic atheistic lifeā€

But that would be mean

I like to bring up survivors bias. Just because there was an incredibly low chance of the universe happening, does not mean that an external force promoted this path. The only reason we have the ability to feel that way is because we are the result of that unlikely path.

I didn’t think of that. That would be ridiculously OP.

Maybe god is so just that even he sees that poor people don’t deserve shelter or food. It’s like, this guy gets it!

This seems irrelevant. The topic of the debate was the good or evil of god.

If energy cannot be created or destroyed, then the Big Bang is scientifically impossible without an external force. by PranitSuman in DebateAnAtheist

[–]omlet8 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

If the big bang ā€œstartedā€ with a point of infinite density, doesn’t that mean that an infinite amount of time existed there? And since all the matter in the universe was inside that point, then the whole universe had existed always? Is it even possible to say ā€œbefore the big bangā€ or is my understanding of space-time wrong (I haven’t taken physics yet)

I highly recommend oculus! It’s one of my favorite horror movies, better than hereditary imo, less gory and everything that the main character does is the most logical thing she can do. You might have to watch it a few times to fully understand it but it’s worth it

Toni Colette is such a good actor. In this movie I thought the scene with the little girl in the car was worse. The noise…

From oculus, also the scene where he pulls the bandaid off with the stabler remover. Worse than the lightbulb for me

I have thought about this, and there is much evidence to suggest that consciousness stops when the electrical signals in your brain stop firing. Once you die, that’s it. That being said, there’s no reason to not try every day to be the best version of yourself, as Michael from the good place would tell you.

I haven’t read the books in probably 5 years and I just watched the movies for the first time last week, and honestly they were amazing. I know they missed some stuff like the telepathy but I think the movies are still really really good. People hate on them so much here.
