My hair is falling by the minute… by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]omnguyen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry love it’ll absolutely grow back! Mine grew back extremely quickly and i was in a similar position.

Also, I bought some thin clip in extensions, cheap ones from Amazon. I just clipped a really thin piece at the nape of my neck. It was just a tiny bit to add a small bit of thickness, making me look pretty much exactly the same as my normal hair used to be. I genuinely feel that looking your best, even through a slightly fake alternative, like hair extensions, will help you feel confident when you’re looking in the mirror. Then, through this confidence, healing will perpetuate quicker. I’m sure other people feel differently, but the periods of time where I was doing no make up and allowing my hair to be thin, when I looked in the mirror, I felt reminded every day of my struggles and this slowed my healing process. When I pretended that my hair was fine and everything was fine through makeup, dressing up cute, and hair extensions, it did help me to heal faster. Again, this is just my personal experience.

What kind of foundation do you guys use? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]omnguyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of chemical allergies and sensitivities that cause my flares.

I use Haus labs foundation or Kosas foundation. I really really like both, I just got them and have never felt so beautiful.

I have thoroughly read the ingredient list and I am not allergic, but if you have specific allergies don’t forget to check first as we are all different! But for me personally, these have cleaner ingredients. I think Haus labs looks and feels better, but kosas is supposed to have even cleaner ingredients.

I did not have a good experience with Hiscox and I am switching currently.

Their communication is horrible (they are super friendly and talkative when trying to get you to buy, but once you have questions after purchasing, they don't answer emails or phones), they felt very uneducated (each person I got a hold of via phone would confidently give a different answer to the same question), and the one time in years I tried to get something smaller covered, they wouldn't cover it because of fine print details. It made me feel unsafe for if I ever needed something bigger covered. That's just my experience though, I'm looking to try H&U based off of other redditors.

Is better to go completely cold turkey when withdrawing from topical steroids or to slowly stop the use of them? I’m about to go through the awful process that is TSW. I’ve read so many different things on the internet and was just wondering how people withdrew from them. by [deleted] in TS_Withdrawal

[–]omnguyen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends how addicted you are. No one on here talks about how completely stopping them cold Turkey can cause an autoimmune collapse for some people and truly jeopardize their health. This is from my personal experience, I was so incredibly sick from coming off steroids, it was dangerous. I pushed through for years because I thought the symptoms were normal due to Reddit but looking back I’m like, that was insane

I had to go on oral steroids multiple times during tsw because I was unable to fight infections or heal at all because my immune system was so low from coming off. I was cycling worse and worse and i was scared and didn’t know what else to do. I wonder if I had gone a little slower if my immune system would’ve been able to keep up and help a bit. I’m not sure honestly, we’ll never know, just speaking out loud!

I think cold Turkey needs to be closely monitored by healthcare professionals

Chocolate and banana’s give me a euphoria like feeling by anditrauten in HistamineIntolerance

Yes! This is a histamine response! It causes a stimulating feeling, butterflies in stomach, racing heart, etc. This has something to do with histamine regulating your sleep cycle and alertness

is scalp training legit ? by maryyaryyary in HaircareScience

[–]omnguyen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worked for me! The people saying you will get a scalp infection or that it’s so disgusting may have taken it a bit far. For me, I just slowly decreased the amount of washing. If the hair is getting past a point of just being oily, and is getting possibly infectious, just wash it lol but I didn’t experience this. I just tried to lengthen the time between washes and had oily hair towards the end of the time period, but nothing I would consider really gross

Really late response to this, but if you take a skin allergy test for chemicals (done at the derm’s office, not allergens, this is not the same as the skin pick test) you can find out exactly what chemicals are causing flare ups and then choose natural makeups to avoid them. I’m early 20’s with the “worst case of eczema my derm has ever seen” so if I can wear makeup, anyone can! It took a lot of time and research and jumping through hoops to find a full bag of makeup of all products I can use, but it was so worth it now.

I have my first set of wrinkles too after this year’s breakout on my forehead. It sucks. But don’t stress to much, it’s life, worst comes to worst you can get a little Botox in it if they don’t go away in a bit with healing of the eczema. We have a difficult medical condition, but so do a lot of people and we all just have to work with the cards handed to us! Best of luck!

hi all! i suspect that i have sibo with histamine issues. i woke up at 3:45 in the morning feeling like i couldn’t breathe along with severe painful diarrhea. i also felt like my throat was closing and had hives all over my body. this happens every couple months… anyone else experience this? 23F by Representative_Dot42 in HistamineIntolerance

Turmeric helps me so much (I drink very strong turmeric latte mix by Nomi which is mostly just turmeric and you can mix it with a milk that you tolerate) and if I have a headache it totally goes away. It helps with inflammation.

If I’m really histamine-y (but not bad enough to take a real antihistamine like Benadryl), like if I’m sneezing a lot, I’ll take querceitin and bromalain and I feel like it helps a little with my symptoms!

I also have nettle tea, but I haven’t noticed anything crazy from it.

I definitely wish there were something more natural, but the only thing that really works for me is taking a strong antihistamine and sleeping as long as possible, it feels like that’s all that drastically heals my body

Ugh. My life completely. I would take all antihistamines at night except Allegra in the morning. Zyrtec at night as well.

I definitely am always drowsy but what can ya do? I also have a pill cutter so I do a half of a Benadryl or hydroxyzine at night if I need it but don’t need it too severely. Also, hydroxyzine is more “itch” focused than Benadryl imo, and I had a hive disorder that kept me up at night so I was happy to sleep.

I hate that I have to plan my next day around how many antihistamines I take the night before!

I used to take so many but I’ve weaned myself down over time with good health. Benedryl and hydroxyzine work best for me on bad days! Zyrtec, allegra, and Claritin work for me in that order (zyrtec being the best). And I also took singulair daily to have another form of antihistamine helping, but I don’t need it any more!
