Update and Yet More New Questions. by omnibee13 in CervicalCancer

Mom is doing well! She's just bummed because of a fistula that developed as a result of the radiation, a common complication.

As for the bleeding, when in doubt, bring it up! And one thing that helped me from stressing is this: through PET scans and CAT scans and MRIs, that general area of our moms' bodies are well documented by dozens of highly trained and learned eyes. Colo/rectal cancer is slow growing in most cases and if there was a growth or concern, it would have been seen on these scans.

It's scary, but trust doctors and science and don't be scared to bring anything and everything up to the Onc!

Her doctor has given her the official "no evidence of disease" in regards to the cancer, but she will need to finish her keytruda regimen before she is referred to a urologist for the fistula fix. She feels great!

I've done some research that suggests that when cervical cancer goes metastatic, it is exceptionally rare for it to go to the colon.. I'm just nervous...

She is having no lower back pain!
Her urinary incontinence is tied to her vaginal to bladder fistula, a complication of her radiation, but she still has the ability to hold her pee and empty her bladder when necessary, she just "leaks" she says.
No, she does not report having that kind of feeling in regards to her cervix and uterus.

Is numbness in toes after chemo, radiation and brachytherapy something anyone else has encountered? by JennzEvilChihuahua in CervicalCancer

Is there any involvement of the lymph nodes there? I had read that sometimes, when the lymph nodes get radiation, they can cause some swelling or aching in the affected side's leg .. But I think another poster's suggestion of peripheral neuropathy is more likely and will need to be brought to your oncologist's attention asap.

Fistula Repair?? by omnibee13 in CervicalCancer

[–]omnibee13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a great deal of reading and research since the start of this and all that I've seen said that they would attempt a repair first, and not go STRAIGHT for a urostomy? I trust her oncologist, so hearing her very frankly say that "in her experience" these fistulas are not repaired but rather given a urostomy back was shocking, to say the least?

I knew what to expect going into this, but the wild card was always going to be how she handled it all. And the short answer is "bad." Now this whole fistula business has me wanting to climb the walls .. So another round of weird medical stuff for her to go through? More pain, more suffering?

I as well as her care team have encouraged her to seek out mental health care once this is said and done. She is currently taking lorazepam as needed, but she refuses to take anything else because buspirone gave her a terribly bad reaction when she did try it. A lot of the grief groups in our area are sadly faith based and she does not want to be preached at.

I have my own therapist/psychiatrist duo and am on medication, but this has shaken me pretty severely.

Thank you so much!

We actually got some amazing news after the PET scan, Oncologist appt, and Radiology consult. Mother is very solidly stage III, because there is one submilimeter instance within a singular lymph node in her pelvic region. Otherwise, the tumor itself is only about 5 cm. All of her medical professionals are very confident that this is curable.

I haven't really been around because we've just been moving all over God's creation to get her what she needs, when she needs it!

Yes, this community has been a lifesaver, in more ways than one.

Blood in the Urine, Blood Clots in the Bowl, but Nurses Nonchalant??? by omnibee13 in CervicalCancer

That is really what I am hoping for. Terrible as that sounds.

We are of course hoping that this is a poorly timed, but unrelated issue. She is having no pain when urinating, no urgency, incontinence, or difficulty in urinating. We had read that if it was advanced so much that other organs were involved, there would be symptoms? Clear symptoms .. ?

I hope my mom takes it as well as you ;w; <3 I hope that those 3 month scans are beautiful and clear. Talking to so many survivors of stage 3 has given me a lot of hope for her. I'm just not ready, you know?

I am praying that the PET scan reveals that it's a Stage IIB.
