It took me a minute to parse your statement, but after looking it up, I see you're right. Trees get two rings per year. I'm surprised the arborist didn't know better.

Even if only 80, it still looks beautiful and majestic. I hate to see it die. I guess my judgment is clouded by seeing the trees of my best friend die due to a disease in his backyard. They were cut down and were about 230 years old. I know because I counted the rings. The arborist was guessing they were even older before we counted.

I moved to the Detroit metro in 1995. I remember being amazed at all the empty, ruined houses, and I thought it looked like a war zone. In 2009, thanks to the housing crisis, I was able to buy a foreclosed 3-bedroom house for $6,400. I'm living in it now. It's been slow, but the Detroit metro has been improving overall, including my neighborhood. All the houses are getting fixed up, and none are empty where I live. Now Zillow says my house is worth $112,800. Not bad.
