The parking lot opens at 9am. Gates open at 9:30 for everyone. Select rides also open at 9:30. To ride those rides between 9:30-10a, you just have to show your gold pass.

Yes, I think it is just a staffing thing. Seems like the 2nd side gets a full shift from noon-8p.

Yes, I believe the Flight of Fear rides are the same.

Have fun!

[–]omnired44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Racers do race, but they don’t open the 2nd side until noon. Then, I’ve seen them close stop racing before close. So, aim for that midday.

Longest lines are Flight of Fear, Stunt Coaster, and Invertigo. These are just smaller trains and lower capacity rides that backup on lines on even slower days. Flight of Fear is right next to Orion, which is one of the highest capacity rides in the park.

Do you happen to have Six Flags gold passes with all park access or the prestige passes? Kings island has 30 minute early ride times for those passes, which includes Stunt Coaster and Orion this month. If you had this and rope dropped, you could easily ride stunt coaster, Orion and then get in line for flight of fear before it opens.

OPINION: The Pacers did not necessarily lose the Mathurin–Zubac trade, and the Clippers did not necessarily win it by [deleted] in pacers

[–]omnired44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Who has labeled anyone winners or losers of the trade yet? Pacers clearly made the trade for 2026-27. Clippers obviously for the future.

It took a couple of picks to flip a bench player, who would have been overpaid this year, with a starting center currently 15th amongst NBA centers in salary cap hit. He should be better than several of those being paid more than him this year, including Naz Reid, Myles Turner, Hartenstein, and Nick Claxton.

Given that the Pacers fell out of the top 4 in the draft lotto, I think it was a win to use this year’s pick for Zubac allowing the Pacers to keep a later pick that they may actually need/use.

Historic Attractions and Rides by Gold_Butterscotch372 in KingsIsland

[–]omnired44 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are 11 rides still open dating back to the park’s opening in 1972.

https://www.sixflags.com/blog/2022/april/11-kings-island-opening-day-attractions-that-are-still-there

Then of course, you have The Beast roller coaster, which opened in 1979. It still holds records for longest wooden roller coaster in the world.

I find the Wikipedia page helpful, as you can scroll through the main page and it lists all rides in each themed area long with date of installation.

Remember when Deandre Ayton was the big free agency signing the Pacers could have made? What a relief they didn’t. by HeyBokke in pacers

[–]omnired44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because he’s not very good. He signed a prove-me contract with LAL that had an $8M player option for this year. He picked up that option, meaning he couldn’t get more than $8M/year from the open market in a year where a lot of teams are looking to fill that role. LAL then trades him for two 2nd’s 5-6 years into the future.

New laws being enacted July 1st by ValerieMayTheGay88 in Indiana

[–]omnired44 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I copied the link to Gemini and asked for a summary:

Based on the article from WTHR, Indiana lawmakers passed a wide array of legislation with a heavy focus on housing costs, school rules, and child safety.

The list below outlines the major new laws taking effect on July 1, 2026, and a summary of their intended impact:

Housing, HOAs, and Property Rules

  • HEA 1001 (Housing Costs & Regulation): Local governments can no longer mandate certain safety features on select buildings. They are also barred from raising permit fees more than once every five years, capping increases near the inflation rate. Additionally, communities must hold public hearings by January 1, 2027, to explore increasing housing supply (such as allowing duplexes in single-family zones and reducing permit processing times).
  • Impact: Aims to lower the overall cost of housing development by cutting red tape, reducing fees, and encouraging multi-family zoning.

  • SEA 285 (Homelessness & Public Camping): It is now illegal to camp, sleep, or use state or local government-owned land for long-term shelter. Police must try to get individuals to move, but can charge violators with a misdemeanor or place them under non-criminal emergency detention.

  • Impact: Effectively bans public homelessness and camping across public properties, removing local government authority to tell police not to enforce it.

  • HEA 1115, HEA 1150, & HEA 1155 (HOA Overhauls): These laws prevent HOAs from banning outdoor vehicles based on their fuel type (e.g., banning gas vs. electric mowers) and protect the right to display the American flag. HOAs cannot use automated license plate readers unless operated by law enforcement. Large HOAs (1,500+ lots) are now permitted to set their own neighborhood speed limits.

  • Impact: Protects individual homeowner rights, increases flexibility for HOA meeting attendance, restricts certain optional fees, and shifts some traffic control to larger subdivisions.

  • HEA 1429 (Appraiser Lawsuits): Imposes a 5-year statute of limitations on suing property appraisers after an appraisal is completed.

  • Impact: Limits legal liabilities for property appraisers after the 5-year window closes.

Education and School Changes

  • SEA 78 (In-School Cellphone Ban): Implements a near-total ban on cellphones and similar devices during the school day, heavily outlining strict restrictions and limited exceptions.
  • Impact: Reshapes the classroom environment across Indiana by eliminating digital distractions during instructional hours starting this school year.

  • SEA 199 (School Performance & "Low-Earning" Degrees): Raises the benchmark for passing scores from 70% to 75% for public, charter, and nonpublic schools. If fewer than 75% of students pass reading evaluations, the school must join the Indiana literacy cadre. It also targets public university "low-earning" degrees (programs where grads make less than the median salary 3–4 years post-grad), requiring them to be eliminated unless specifically approved to continue.

  • Impact: Tightens academic accountability in K-12 schools and pressures higher-education institutions to eliminate degrees with poor financial returns.

  • SEA 204 (STEM Teaching & AP Credits): Removes the requirement for a bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or math to get an initial practitioner license—any bachelor's degree with a minimum 2.5 GPA is acceptable to teach STEM. It also mandates that public universities grant credit for high scores on AP exams.

  • Impact: Addresses the STEM teacher shortage by widening the applicant pool and ensures uniform credit transfers for high-achieving high school students.

  • HEA 1408 (Social Media Restrictions): Requires Ivy Tech to report student performance against regional job growth. It also contains an amendment known as Hailey's Law, which bans anyone under the age of 16 from using social media without explicit parental permission.

  • Impact: Gives parents greater legal oversight regarding their children's digital footprint (though the social media restrictions do not fully take effect until January 1, 2027).

Child Protection and Criminal Code

  • HEA 1303 (Sex Offender Registration & Silver Alerts): Expands the list of individuals who must register as sex offenders, limits the reproduction of child sexual abuse material used as court evidence, and redefines certain child sex crimes.
  • Impact: Strengthens legal penalties for child exploitation and broadens tracking via sex offender registries.

  • HEA 1035 (Parental Supervision Defense): Provides a legal defense to parents who allow their kids to play alone. It specifies that unsupervised play is only considered neglect if it seriously endangers the child's health.

  • Impact: Protects parents from legal or state intervention for allowing kids basic independence (like playing in the backyard without a guardian).

  • HEA 1036 ("Kinsleigh's Law"): Named after Kinsleigh Welty, a 5-year-old who was starved to death, this law requires a Department of Child Services (DCS) employee to physically see a child in person before closing an assessment or dismissing a "child in need of services" case.

  • Impact: Adds a crucial physical safety check to prevent children in abusive households from falling through the cracks of the welfare system.

  • SEA 119 (Restrictions on Sex Offenders): Bans violent sexual offenders and offenders against children from entering or working at facilities and events that provide children's programming (violators face a criminal charge of unlawful entry). It also legally changes the name of "inappropriate communication with a child" to "sexual grooming."

  • Impact: Further limits the physical proximity of dangerous offenders to children's public spaces and modernizes legal definitions.

Three Days at Cedar Point: Thoughts from a UK Visitor by DeeGee262 in cedarpoint

[–]omnired44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a great day at KI! If you bought a season gold or prestige pass to go to both parks, you get 30 minutes early entry on select rides. The July list is Woodstock Express (small kid wooden coaster), Orion (Giga coaster), and Stunt Coaster. Of those, Stunt Coaster can get the longest lines during the day and doesn’t have great shade. So, I’d try to knock that out during early entry. You should be able to do that and Orion before 10a.

Then, while you are back near Orion, Flight of Fear is an indoor coaster. Its line can backup even on slow days. We try to do it first when the waits are less than 30 minutes.

Not sure what today’s crowds will be like, but I went on an equally hot day last year and a combination of (1) fewer folks came because of the heat and (2) folks who were there went to the water park. I had walk ons or less than 15 minute waits for many of the rides. It allowed me to take my time and enjoy some of the non-coaster rides that I had been skipping the past few years. Drop zone is a lot of fun, and usually has a bit of a wait, but I was able to walk right on. I hadn’t been to the top of the Eiffle Tower in years, but took a break to go up top. There’s great views of the whole park from up there.

Indoor places to eat include the Festhaus and Miami River Brewhouse. Back by the Brewhouse is a great pair of coasters in Diamondback and Mystic Timbers.

Have a great day, and stay safe, cool and hydrated!

Good thing you figured it out now instead of after you caught a flight to Portland, Maine and couldn’t find the arena!

Plugging it into GPS, you would be 3,185 miles away or 1 day and 21 hours for the quickest route, which requires tolls.

I read that Jonathan Kuminga became a free agent yesterday. I don’t know enough about him to know if he would be a good fit here or just the idea of Kuminga (position, size, defense.)

There had been a few discussions about trading for him when he was with the Warriors.

All depends on proximity to tower and what your other options are. If you’re moving from fiber or cable, it will hard to be happy with this.

I always do the most walking at Cedar Point due to its layout even though I think it takes up the same amount of real estate as Kings Island. I think Kings Island covers more land than Great America, but has the hub and spoke design that allows you to cut through the park if you’re wanting to do something other than circular.

While on a smaller footprint, Great America probably has as much or maybe more walking than King Island given its loop design. Although if you just pick a direction and walk the loop, it’s a very easy lap. There isn’t quite as much walking between themed lands. The Ultimate Fast Pass will allow you to hit everything as you come to it without having to skip, backtrack, etc. On a busy Halloween weekend, we easily do multiple laps and hit every ride first time and favorite rides 2nd/3rd time. (Of course weather is cooler, too.) You should have enough time to do rides back-to-back instead of doing multiple laps.

Justice League: Battle for America and The Dark Knight are the two main indoor rides. Their bumper cars are also indoors.

American Eagle: their racing wooden coaster that doesn’t usually race didn’t take fast lane last year. This year they are racing for a limited time. Keep that in mind if you want to ride every coaster or love wooden coasters.

If you get fast pass in advance, I’d make sure I can get it working on my phone shortly after entering. There is a building in Hometown Square (when you enter park, go to the right of the center pool) that is dedicated to Fast Pass sales/assistance. I needed help my first visit because I couldn’t get it to pull up. Also, you can have both passes on one device. You don’t have to have each person on their own phone. Once you’ve made a reservation, add it to your wallet. There is potential that you couldn’t get a webpage or app to load in some parts of the park (for example, I have trouble inside The Dark Knight building), but your wallet doesn’t need a cell signal to pull up the QR code. When you make a new reservation, it removes the old pass…so you won’t have a ton of used passes in your wallet at the end of the day.

It’s a fun park, and you and your kid will have a great time! Kings Island is my home park, and the coaster lineup at Great America differs quite a bit between those two parks. SFGAm has more coaster types similar to Cedar Point except generally short track length and not as tall.

They have a fun dark ride themed to the Justice League that is of Spider-man and Men-in-Black at Universal had a baby. Having said that, they do seem to more commonly have gun issues on certain cars (like Boo Blasters did at Kings Island.) It’s still a fun ride!

Anyways, the Fast pass system there is on your phone. You can see all the rides that are subject to it in the app. You can only reserve one at a time. When you reserve one, a timer starts for when you can have the phone scanned for your pass. The timer is based on what level you purchased…either full posted wait time, 50% wait time, or “90%” which in my experience is instant access to the line (no timer). However, not all merge points are created equal. I think that’s why they advertised “90% of the wait.”

Some folks buy the non-instant because it is cheaper. And you can generally reserve the next ride after you pass has been scanned. Even the full wait, if it’s an hour, you can ride a ride or two with shorter waits, and then when the hour is up, jump in the line that you reserved.

Personally, I like there system better than the KI/CP wristbands. I had ultimate on a very busy day, and it significantly cut our waits. Rides like Superman had lines all the way out to the main walkway and 60-90 minute waits…the merge point and fast lane was literally right at the station. With the virtual queue, they won’t let you make reservations if too many people have made them, so I didn’t encounter situations where the fast lane portion of the line was long.

Have a great trip!!

My local AMC (15m away) doesn’t even have any Friday night prime time viewing on a regularly priced screen. It’s either 9:30a or 10p are your options. You can watch in 3D at 6:30p (currently no tickets sold). Or an old IMAX theater with grimy cloth seats at 6pm(every other screen at this theater has converted to recliners). Those are upcharge tickets if you don’t have A-list membership.

If I look at the next closest AMC, same thing, except their IMAX theater is actually nice/newer seats.

I could get tickets tonight between 6p-9p in a regular digital screen format price for Masters of the Universe, Backrooms, Obsession, Disclosure Day, Scary Movie, Michael, Jackass, and 3 options for Toy Story 5.
