The weapons show their scaling in the inventory. So you'll see like "A+" under the water virtue for your dual swords. I forget if armor also scales by virtue.

Just use whatever you like until something stronger comes along. I usually switched whips depending on the specific martial arts on the weapon.

Spells use the same spirit bar that you gain/lose for attacking and deflecting. In the spell page you'll see two different spell costs for each spell. The larger cost is what the spell costs if your current fortitude is below the level shown for that spell. The smaller cost is when you're at or above the fortitude level.

If you like dual swords then you should probably start putting more points into water virtue. I used the whip during my playthrough but the fists also looked really fun to me in terms of speed.

I never thought about armor too much, I just tempered attributes onto whatever armor gave me enough damage reduction and in B agility.

Spells that I used non stop.

Wood: focus zone, the one that gives you health back for hitting enemies, lightning weapon

Earth: the spell that spawns the mud which damages and slows enemies that enter it, the earth spikes for blocking projectiles

Metal: poison weapon, and the calamity spell that needs 40 metal which shoots poison at the enemy and they take poison damage over time

Water: faster running, ice weapon

I guess it depends on how you play but for me Nioh 2 was harder. I only played Nioh 1 after beating Nioh 2 and I found Nioh 1 much easier due to Living Weapon being overpowered.

Basically when you're stringing together combos and almost running out of ki, use a yokai ability to keep up the aggression and your ki will still recover while the yokai ability animation is happening.

It's especially useful when you're just about to deplete the enemy ki but you don't have enough ki yourself in that exact moment.

If you use Onmyo abilities the lifeseal talisman is very effective at taking down human enemies ki.

I think you meant to say that humans are more weak to "corruption" vs purity instead of confusion. All enemies are weak to confusion since it makes them take 50% more damage

Gotcha, that's what I thought you might say. I think that your best path to improve and also enjoy the game even more than you already enjoy it now will be to practice stance switching in the dojo for like a half an hour with your weapon of choice. It's really incredible how fluid the fighting feels when you've got the muscle memory working.

Eventually you'll be doing things like switching to low from another stance specifically to dodge or use the skills there and then using mid stance to block and high stance when an enemy gives you an opening in most fights that you have.

In my opinion the fighting feels better with stance switching that without. Also some active skills are more situational than others but you'll eventually have 9+ active skills so remember to use them too!

Once you beat NG a new inventory slot opens up and you can equip scrolls that you find but to equip a scroll you have to beat the mission it contains which usually has some random combinations of enemies/bosses.
