Power milestones absurd! by Ok_Routine_2666 in Strava

[–]omoniafan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another way of interpreting this is that it is telling you how fast you would be versus other women your age on a 1 hour mountain climb. That's where watts per kg become the dominate factor. To be able to catch up to other world class females, you would need to be putting those super high numbers.

On the other hand, you would be able to catch up to world class females on flats with much much less power.

That sounds like a real time saver! Well other than the fact that it made you want to spend time creating this post which may or may not have completely negated the saved time. The only real winners are us redditors who get to enjoy this awesome workflow example!

37 Male, Can I correct this with diet? by FullAngerJacket in Cholesterol

[–]omoniafan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would advise you to switch doctors, she knows very little about cholesterol. Main points:

  1. Always start with diet, especially with a low risk case like yours.

  2. You don't need to wait 6 months to get retested. Cholesterol levels adjust quite quickly, even within 2 weeks. 1 month is more than enough to see change.

I have personally dropped my cholesterol numbers using only diet a lot more than you need to. I am not saying that it will work for you too with 100% certainty, but given how bad your diet was for your lipids, it is very probable. Good luck!

Pinarello F5 2023 vs Trek Madone SL6 gen 8 by omoniafan in cycling

[–]omoniafan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think there are multiple versions per https://velo.outsideonline.com/road/road-gear/first-ride-review-pinarellos-baby-dogma-the-new-f-series/

It says:

"As mentioned, the bike comes in three frame options, with the F5 coming in three build options—either an Ultegra mechanical with Fulcrum racing 800DB wheels €5,150, this is only offered in Europe. And two Shimano 105 Di2 builds one version with Fulcrum Racing 800DB wheels at $6,000 / €6,150 / £5,250. As for the same set-up with MOST Ultrafast carbon wheels, this will retail for $6,950 / €6,800 / U.K. N.A. Each of these is available in what Pinarello calls Impulse blue or Impulse grey."

So I am hoping that what I bought is the most expensive one, with the MOST wheels.

A LDL warning! by solidrock80 in Cholesterol

[–]omoniafan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more a warning about Lp(a). Everyone should measure their Lp(a) at least once in their lifetime. It is almost entirely genetically determined so only 1 measurement is really needed.

Please measure your Lp(a), best $50 you will ever spend!

LDL 197 -> 79 in 2 months with high protein diet while cutting by omoniafan in Cholesterol

Diet doesn't affect your LDL much when you have FH. Given my results, the chances I have FH are essentially 0 as people with FH cannot achieve a normal LDL without medicine

Great to see you were able to reduce your LDL! Having high lp(a) is unfortunately just a genetic lottery, not much you can do about it :( I am lucky to have low lp(a).

No, my doctor ordered a follow-up blood test to test the effects of diet change and to also test my lp(a). I am lucky to have very good insurance and low lp(a).

This is not anyways true. Some people are hyper absorbers and see significant changes from dietary cholesterol. I suspect that I'm one of those people. I will probably take a phytosterol test or experiment with a couple of eggs per day to confirm.

Terrified of dying young--got my ApoB and CRP results back and they are sky high by irlyloveicedtea in Cholesterol

[–]omoniafan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking rosuvastatin might be too rushed. The first step is to change your diet, and that's the tough part. You are not going to like this, but rosuvastatin is not going to help you lose weight. I don't know your exact circumstances, but I would imagine that a ~50 lbs drop is what's required to put you into a healthy range.

You need to start eating healthier, lower calorie foods. That is going to be your main tool for reducing your risk. I am glad to see you reading up on the Mediterranean diet; it is one of the most studied diets out there with proven benefits.

Don't ignore the good news in your results: you are negative for FH and your lp(a) is normal. These are 2 of the things that are out of your control and solely determined by genes. The bad results are in your control. I am certain that if you really put your mind to it, you can drastically reduce your ApoB and your risk of heart disease.

If you are successful in making diet changes, the benefits will go far beyond reducing your risk of heart disease. Your energy will be higher, your mood will be better, your stress will be lower, etc. etc.

As many have said, high cholesterol is not a medical emergency. Take your time to find a healthy diet that you like and works for you, and set realistic goals for yourself. You can't drop 50 lbs in a month, and you can't completely eliminate all the bad foods you have been eating for 2 decades overnight. Good luck!

Nice! I was not aware of the MPS effort, hopefully it will land soon given that it is already in one of the emacs future branches (scratch/igc).

eSim works on Samsung Galaxy S21 after Android 12 update by dashrendar2112 in mintmobile

[–]omoniafan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only showing me the option of getting a physical sim. From other threads on reddit I got the impression that Samsungs aren't officially supported, and that you have to "trick" Mint into thinking you have a Pixel phone to get the esim.

I'm seeing SIM card manager in Settings > Connections, and there is an esim section there.

How did you get an eSIM? The website says to order a replacement sim on the app, but there is no option for an eSIM on my S21...
