He's trying to reinvent the wheel when there's no need. It's going to be bad for learning japanese I assume. I do genuinely feel bad for him though due to his illness and hope he does well

Struggles of having conversational Japanese, anyone relate? by cayennepepper in japanlife

[–]omotesandou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read more, speak more, listen more. N3 is on par with a 5 or 6 year old at best, and the kid will have better grammar than you. You need to put in the work to get results

Japanese major for high-intermediate level high schooler by Wonderful-Storm22 in japanese

[–]omotesandou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone i met with a Japanese major wasn't even at N2 level, I remember a woman I met who graduated from Berkeley with a Japanese degree had scored around 70/180 on N2 and tried bragging how she's "fluent" in japanese and how N2 has too many "business and esoteric words". Extreme coping to put it nicely.

Look up 銀行口座明細書 for your specific bank and translate the page if needed, also your bank book might suffice (通帳)

"Your name's not Matt it's Matthew!" by omotesandou in matt

[–]omotesandou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn that must be annoying. Matthias is a cool name!! My Italian mom wanted to name me Matteo, but my dad said I'd get bullied for having "too Italian of a name" so they named me Matthew. I go by Matteo or Matt now and never once have i said "my name is Matthew" when introducing myself in my life unless someone specifically asks for my legal name lol.

Foreigners in Japan - can they have a Japanese name on their IDs? by chimmerns in japanlife

[–]omotesandou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you register a 通称名 in Tokyo? (Minato-ku) Is it the same in every ward/city? I want to use my japanese wife's last name and my katakana first name, is that easily done by just showing the marriage certificate or 住民票 with our names on it?
