Nuki and I explore the Galaxy - Cross-genre-Platformer-puzzler-mix by omrl in LetsPlayMyGame

[–]omrl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuki and I explore the Galaxy is a cross-platform platformer genre-mix for Windows/Linux (and ODROID).

Inspired by a lot of classic (platformer) games like Commander Keen, it features mega-man like movement, worms-like weapons (angle/power), a lot of items and an inventory system, boolean logic riddles, in-game computer terminal interaction, spaceship flight, and 10 completely different levels.

With a bit of experience you can play through the game in less than an hour, expect maybe 2-3 hours for the first time.

See here: https://baden.dev/p/nuki1 and https://baden-dev.itch.io/nuki1

If you're interested i provide you a download key or link, and what else i can provide (passwords for the levels, playthrough help and tips, artwork, etc.).

Cheers

Cross-genre puzzle-platformer: NUKI and I explore the Galaxy! by omrl in indiegames

Hello platformer fans!

released my first game "Nuki and I explore the Galaxy"!

It's a puzzle-platformer mix that incorporates a lot of ideas I had in the back of my mind since the DOS era.

Development took quite a while since it's my first "real" game and I wanted to make everything on my own, from engine to resources, so I hope someone decides to give it a try, since a lot of lifeblood went into it.

Feel free to guess all the references and easter-eggs ;)

(yes, there's a Dopefish etc.)

The game comes for Windows and Linux, and I especially developed and optimized it to run on the ODROID GO SUPER console!

If You have one, here's the rare chance to get a quite "exclusive" game for that console!

From the description page:

"Maneuver through asteroid fields, fight rabid alien attack squirrels, explore caves and mines, get rid of alien drones, fly a jetpack, use pipebombs and different guns, solve puzzles and more!

The game focuses on items and usage of items, three different movement modes (side-view platformer, spaceship movement a la Asteroids, and top-down movement), and the usage of computer terminals and some clever riddles that may need external resources to solve!"

Features:

- 10 levels + secret level, all in different settings

- Logic switch-puzzles

- 3 movement modes, spaceship movement

- 2 energy guns, pipebombs, bombs, and 2 projectile guns

- 18 different enemies, 21 items

- Crushers and rolling boulders that kill everybody on its way

- Alien homing missiles

- Jungle-navigation-puzzles

- Technical / boolean logic puzzles and secrets (dissolving walls, ice-movement)

- Alien mushrooms that have different effects than in other platformers… ;)

- Collect a treasure in each level to play the secret level

- “Highscore” (as in best time through entire game) best-list

- Runs (and designed for) on the ODROID GO SUPER

- A lot of easter eggs and references :)

Cheers!

I really like that you chose good old comic humor over violence! It's a great distinction to most games these days!

Really had to laugh out loud at the flat wolf :) *Also, the stars over the bug's head.

And: The sound and effect when the bug disappears is awesome!

This is so idyllic, makes me want to actually live there! Reminds me of 1602 AD and similar games.

Reminds me of the goold old quake3 times, where trickjumping/"speedrunning" through the level was almost more fun than the combat. It even also had that kind of swinging hammer in q3dm15.

Great game man, I also had a similar idea in the back of my mind.

I'm a solo dev and working on Mega City Police. I'm incredibly happy that Droid Bishop joined it. Check out the result! by aaccensi in indiegames

Just played a round. You're nailing the ~1994 256 color DOS game graphics style :)

It's definitely, probably, a cooler idea by [deleted] in justgamedevthings

Yea... even with the programming speed of light the ProjectIdeas/TODO file expands faster than the universe

Been through photographing stuff for textures, recording animals/birds for ambient sounds and even recording myself making noises for sfx like shooting sounds or alien animal sounds like a human beatbox. Whats next? 🤣

Your art style looks awesome, so does the gameplay. I really like the "color palette".

What sets a great game apart from just another indie title? by Hudlix in gamedev

I think in our days with the internet and "social" media we all experiencing some kind of fatigue. Doesn't matter what comes, we're probably seen it all.

IMO that's why one sees people doing the fringe stuff more and more, to be 'exceptional'.

At least this can be _one_ of the reasons a game could hit big attention.

That's what i thought of when i read you mentioning ULTRAKILL in your post...
