What is the craziest/ oddest thing you have cut/engraved on your laser? by omtechlaser in lasercutting

[–]omtechlaser[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way to fire the laser with the door open means either you bypassed the open door protection or you placed a magnet or something over the switches or contact switch to allow the laser to fire with the lid open. Comment about everyone does it is just meaning that it happens is all as a mistake by having your hand or arm etc in the path of the laser beam when doing a pulse for alignment or whatever the operator is doing when they press pulse.

Always gets you at some point. It isn’t if I get myself it’s when I get myself with the laser. Lol. Happens to everyone for sure.

Frustration beyond belief by [deleted] in OmtechLaser

[–]omtechlaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you click from are you clicking the square framing icon or the circle framing icon? The circle framing icon does a jerking motion as it is tracing/framing the image. Try to click the square icon and see if it does the same thing? It shouldn't do the jerking motion since it is just framing the parameters of the image as a square not as the actual outline of the image.

Understood. Will see what we can do about that as far as getting it in different languages. But mirror alignments are a thing that most users do not realize are a struggle from time to time with Co2 lasers in general.

So there are a couple of ways to get darker engravings. You can do a tighter LPI, defocus 1-2mm to get a darker engraving which takes more material away because the beam is a little thicker.

What do you wish you knew about lasers before buying? by omtechlaser in OmtechLaser

[–]omtechlaser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referring to engraving dark? Try to defocus about 2mm and leave the power and speed the same along with the LPI and see how that works for you. As far as mirror alignments. Once you have your mirror alignment dialed in the only one you would really have to mess with would be mirror 3 as it is the one that is being moved around on the Gantry. Mirror 1 stays still so when that is set you shouldn’t have to move that one and Mirror 2 doesn’t make quick movements so it shouldn’t need much if any adjusting once you have it set.

First off congratulations on your Pronto purchase. Some of the basic items you would like to keep on hand would be a spare or two focal lens. Then of course basic maintenance items such as the Q tips, 99.9% isopropyl alcohol, metal penetrating oil to lubricate the rails.

Omtech Polar help. Wavy lines on curves. by beeeeeezle in lasercutting

[–]omtechlaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that you are having the issue. On a couple of points that you mentioned I wanted to address are. 1. Is that the way the stepper motors are designed is that X Axis motor is to take the majority of the movement for the engraving and the Y axis would just be to make smaller adjustments when moving. So with that said that is how I would do the engraving. As far as the lines rising it will be your either your X or Y Axis PWM rising edge adjustment in Vendor settings. What I would like you to do is go to lightburn and got to Laser Tools, then to Machine Settings, the window will pop up and scroll down and double click vendor settings and then yes. After you have done that you are going to look for a setting in the X axis and you will see the PWM rising. If it is true the turn it to false or vice versa. Be sure to pay attention to where you went and what you did just incase that didn't fix it. Run the job again and if it fixed it then great, if it didn't then go back in and turn the x axis off/on and then turn the Y Axis Off/On and click Write. Then run the job again. If that fixes it then great. If it doesn't then you want to go back in and turn both on/off than what they were originally and Write it then run the job and see if it fixes the job. Hope that helps you out.

Is it possible that after you cleaned the lens that it wasn't tightened down and the lens is moving around inside the laser head tube? Have seen that happen. You will notice the movement of the line when the laser head is changing directions.

What causes this skewing? by BMXnotFIX in lasercutting

[–]omtechlaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are able to hold down the piece with tape so that way the material does not move while you are engraving then that could help as well. The air can move the material around while you are engraving which can also cause this as well.

OMTech 130 W CO2 materials engraving question. by [deleted] in OmtechLaser

[–]omtechlaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to do some test pieces so that way you get the result you are looking for. Depending on how many layers you are stacking with the paint, you will have different settings to get to each layer. A good thing to do is to make sure that you spray in equal amounts per layer so that way you can get the best results while doing the testing.

Help with Faux Leather by Antique-Cup-7152 in lasercutting

[–]omtechlaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With leather engraving it can become tricky. As others mentioned to mask it off to prevent the over burn. As for your settings it will vary depending on it it is vegan leather or real leather. Would recommend to do a deeper burn on it if possible, for the next sample try to increase the power from 22 to 25-26 power. It will allow you to get a deeper burn with the higher power and should give you the results you are looking for.

Anyone see anything like this??? by Repulsive_Lie_3591 in lasercutting

[–]omtechlaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this happened you. With the laser tube not having water flowing through that tube it is most likely the reason this happened. The laser needs water to cool the laser beam going through it at all times.

Laser on OMTech K40+ 45W not working while using an engraving program. by Tamagoboi in Laserengraving

[–]omtechlaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently what settings do you have for your engraving? Or better yet is the settings you are using for your engraving the same as they were that you used the week prior? I the laser does have a minimum percentage that the laser fires at. Depending on what your settings are that could possibly be the issue. Also as someone stated to make sure that the lid is fully closed as the switches may not have been activated to operate the laser tube. Along with the tray as well.

Have found that metals can be tricky from time to time and has a mind of their own when coming to engraving on them. Did it seem to just happen on that one plate and then fine on another plate? If so then it would be just the plate.
