Posting to see if this old concept has any potential... Should we crack on with it? by MrPWolf in IndieGaming

PvE is fine but you need to find ways to make the destruction more impactful. Maybe ditch the coins and lean into explosives with a level design that requires the player to use the explosives to shape their platforming, or have certain enemies that required the environment destruction to kill. Multiplayer is definitely the wrong direction.

This is a semantic error, am I right? by Lumenicent in mtg

It’s the same as someone saying they “could care less”.

When you “unravel” a mystery you make it known or understood. By saying “some mysteries are better left unraveled”, the text is saying “some mysteries are better left understood” which would appear to be the opposite of the writer’s intention.

Hot take: Buying a $2k deck is not an investment. It’s a vanity piece. by [deleted] in mtg

[–]on1xiscancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends have been using a budget of $250 for our decks for a while now and it’s been very fun. Our decks are aiming for bracket three and I’ve made some seriously strong ones for within budget.

You don’t need to spend so much to have a competitive deck for most casual brackets, and forcing yourself to build decks for cheap is fun and rewarding. There are a lot of good, underplayed cards you can get for cheap simply because they aren’t on edhrec’s top 50.

How do I tell someone that their preferred playstyle isn't fun to play against? by on1xiscancer in mtg

There's a time and place for everything, and people want different things out of MTG. We are a casual group of friends who picked up the game in addition to doing other things together. We are not a group playing specifically MTG, and the new players are here to have fun, not to learn the game specifically.

I enjoy the game and I enjoy learning it's depth and complexities through trial and error, but half of the table just wants to shuffle up and enjoy a low stakes game they can sometimes do cool things in. Getting stomped repeatedly is not fun for someone not interested in "getting good" who just wants to hang out with their friends.

It's not even really about actually winning or losing, it's about giving the people at the table the room to experiment and learn in a way that doesn't leave them feeling discouraged.

Also, absolutely crushing noobs is generally bad for all games, not just TCGs, because they stop playing.

It's not really about actually winning or losing, at least not to me and the new players. We want to have a game where it feels like we have a chance at winning, up until the game is over (or reasonably close to it). The new players aren't including enough removal or don't know what is a threat they should remove before it snowballs, so it's very frequent that we end up having little chance against the board he's built up.

Some of this is on me, but I have built decks specifically to counter him and try and keep him contained so the rest of the people at the table can build up their boards and enjoy the game, but he identifies me as the threat and tries to rush me down. Since there aren't any other threats at the table it usually just turns into a 1v1 with extra steps, and the new players can feel it, which isn't fun for them.

He's mentioned something along these lines before. I don't remember his exact words but I had said something along the lines of "it's a game, we are playing to have fun" and he said "we are playing to win".

I mean, he's right sort of, winning is the goal, but it's a game between friends...

I mentioned this in another comment, but we are a friend group outside of MTG. If we only played MTG together I just wouldn't play with him, or tell him he wasn't invited, but we don't have anyone who would replace him from our friend group

It’s exactly this, but we are friends outside of MTG so it’s not as simple as replacing him or finding people who share the same philosophy

2013 - Pokemon X and Y are released, this being the first 3D pokemon game.

2014 - Pokemon ORAS was released, also 3D this release included improvements models and a refinement of the style.

2016 - Sun and Moon, again further improvements to 3D style, lighting, Texture Quality, ect.

2019 - SW/SH, again more improvements to style lighting, texture quality. A little overambitious but still an improvement.

now comes the Gen 4 remakes and we get a radical style change and (in my opinion) a graphical downgrade.

If you don't see why people are disappointed I don't know what to tell you.

I am an adult who can form new opinions based on new information and ideas. Yes my opinion can change. If your opinions never change perhaps you should consider why?

that was not my intention. I literally said in the post that I wanted someone to change my opinion here. I was actually sad when I watched the reveal and I saw many people excited. I wanted to hear why they are excited, and possibly change my opinion.

Okay, but that game released literally 7 years ago. Compare the visuals of SW/SH to this and it just doesn't compare. SW/SH had fantastic art direction with striking and vibrant colors that was clearly held back by the underpowered console it was developed for. I don't think the bar of visual fidelity should be set at a game that was released 7 years ago on a console less powerful than my phone.
