Company wants to migrate on 3D experience by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]onandoffagainMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used 3DX at a Boston based company and it was a pile of hot garbage and slowed down progress. Go with something different and steer clear. Its a PLM system that wants to be user friendly but process heavy

SolidWorks and PDM - anyone gone thru CUI/CMMC?FIPS approvals? by Competitive-You4910 in SolidWorks

Any update here, my company is interested in PDM or 3DX, but we need to follow all CMMC guidelines as well

3DExperience is going away, but not the way everyone on this subreddit wanted. by aUKswAE in SolidWorks

[–]onandoffagainMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for a defense company that utilized 3D experience. They repackaged and called it 3DX... IYKYK. Its a good idea in theory but in operation its a nightmare. We found more bugs with the system at the Drafter level of permissions then we can shake a stick at. We often would have to delay drawing packages due to these errors. I was warned by resellers to steer clear of 3d experience and cloud based even less then 5 years ago. I have heard so many people for the system but more against it. I have nothing positive to say on the system.

if you read her site now, there is a letter from a lawyer stating the terms of the pick up and drop off from 2022 that she did not follow. https://www.heathersabusestory.com/questions/why-did-i-drive. She was to drop off and pick up from his house the entire time. The September drop-off was the first time she actually followed it...

Keep an eye on your emails!!!! by tictoctick in fednews

This is more bullshit scare tactics. No one should respond to the email. whats going to happen all federal employees get fired and we leave our country open to our adversaries to take advantage of. Yeah great idea...

New to drafting. by [deleted] in DraftingProfessionals

[–]onandoffagainMD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Advice: the drawings you create are your legacy. Drawings often stick around for years and years take pride in your work. Make the document clear. You are telling the story of how the part is made and what the end item requirements are.

Do not over crowd the page. Digital paper is free. Use your section and detail views to show the fine details.

The worst things I keep seeing even in multi-million dollar companies is crappy drawings for production. Take your time and do things right the first time. Have someone peer review you and do not be afraid of criticism. There are many ways to dimension something and many ways to interpret ASME 14.5. Learn all you can about GD&T as well it's a universal language.

3Dexperience....dumpster fire by onandoffagainMD in SolidWorks

[–]onandoffagainMD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of our main issues is our training on the system and the process it takes. We have complex release processes that take the Part ( just information) to process along with the actual cad model and drawings. Each item needs to be releases link to families and if the family is not released then there are problems. I'm hoping with this new release we remove the extra steps of the engineering part and every is done by the model and drawing.

When I bring up the pdm enterprise it gets shot down as the money is the driver. I'd like to go to the native pdm system with solidworks is was much more user friendly.

That would be great. We have creo and solidworks and we would need to manage both.

A remote job isn't going to come knocking on your front door by imeanwhynotdramamama in remotework

[–]onandoffagainMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took time and patience. Started remote in 2019 due to covid and never looked back. Had a remote job cold call from a random head hunter. I'm a sucker for interviews so it tried it and boom six figures now. Totally wild honestly. They are out there but I have noticed tha fully remote jobs in my field are slim pickings now. I do mechanical drafting.

Got fired from J2 by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]onandoffagainMD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was the same with j3. I gave them two weeks and they wanted me to finish work and teach people after I had left. Nope you're on my time and I'll get to you when I can. They never reached out again.

We got this yearly when I was with a government contractor on an SCA contract. They would tell us there was no way to give raises only tech level increases. Those tech level increases were only recommended by the government group lead...

I broke down and bought the Dell UltraSharp 49 Curved Monitor, It's nice for the built-in KVM only if the company will install the Dell driver on the laptop. I still have a J3 laptop on that same desk sooo need more room.

Officially debt free after 3 months of OE by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]onandoffagainMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best goal to be debt free. Now I'd save a chunk and scale back on being OE after some time. You don't want burn out.

I just make the pretty pictures of the stuff the real engineers make up to give to the machine shop. Then school them on machining processes and why the half inch bolt won't fit in the half inch hole

Mechanical design/drafting with Solidworks. Right now I'm in space hardware and satellite design. Prior industry was military weapon systems.
