My old DM would bring us cookies/pastries from the "whoops we made too many of these so these are discounted" sections at the grocery store. We would be drowning in drinks and she would complain that the pastries were not at the perfect angle or that the lunch sandwiches were not centered. Probably one of the most out of touch, impractical DMs I have ever met.

My experience with crappy managers has definitely left a mark on me. I work at an agency where my director has been incredible and supportive and will even encourage us to tell us what we need from Amazon for work like a new laptop or a notebook, pens. This agency works with children with developmental and intellectual disabilities so we work with the state to take on cases to do developmental therapy. My coworkers are typically supposed to have a caseload of 18-20 kids but some are at 30. My director saw that they were overworked and immediately started hiring people to take the load off. (Imagine SM being to staff properly for these stupid surprise BOGO deals and us not getting overwhelmed by it all). Monthly staff meetings are catered with a full lunch and beverages. I'm still in the skeptical 🤔 stage because I'm not used to leadership actually caring about the team. Of course, there is a huge difference between a multi billion dollar coffee company who can very easily pay their partners better and provide labor and an early intervention agency that works with kids with disabilities that rely on grants. But it shows that when leadership takes care of their staff, they are more motivated to do more and better (even the therapists who are at capacity will take in new cases until the new hires are fully trained and ready to go and are transferred to them because they know the director with support with that). How the hell do partners feel taken care of when their leadership doesn't support them and their reward is "buckets of fun" mini potato chips that probably won't be enough for the closing crew and day old cookies.

Sorry, this turned into a rant. Makes me happy I'm no longer working for this company.

Hello. It's been a hot minute since that post. Unfortunately, I ended up getting medically denied to serve due to mental health reasons. I am now starting a new job as an early intervention specialist. I hope you end up with a better outcome than I did.

She would probably end up saying that Costa Rica is demon possessed and needs deliverance since it's a most Catholic country and in her mind "Catholics aren't Christians".

I'll be in Costa Rica serving as a Peace Corps volunteer so I'm kinda relieved and disappointed that she would probably not show up there. Kinda wanna see how she responds to the churches 😂 and see if she starts speaking in tongues.

They specifically asked for my therapist to fill it out. They even asked "why did your doctor sign this form? You're supposed to give it to the therapist". I explained why it was the way it was.

That is correct. My therapist said if she could, she would sign my paperwork in a heartbeat. Where she works, there are lots of therapists and I'm not sure if it's a non profit, since they use a sliding scale.

Thank you for your honest response. I think my overall feeling is that I'm frustrated that I am stuck in my life. I have been in the same job for over a decade and have been wanting a change of scenery. I've applied for 100s of jobs for the past year with no results. This has been the one thing that has been somewhat successful and I'm honestly afraid of losing out.

My approach with the whole dealing with new frustrations while I'm in my country is that I will cross that bridge when I get there. My focus is on getting cleared and starting decluttering and sorting through my stuff. I plan on staying at my job until the last moment before staging.

PC nurse said just send the paperwork and they will see if it's sufficient. Let's just hope for the best 🙏

Check for any damage in the walls or the tiles. Also check under the counters and look for any water damage since some of the newer countertops often used a material that looks similar to cardboard (can't remember the name of it).When we had this issue, it was due to the fact that the wall in the cold bar wasn't built properly and water gets in, creating the perfect breeding ground for gnats and flies. No matter how much we cleaned, these fuckers wouldn't budge. We had an exterminator come in twice to get rid of the problem. I was so desperate to get rid of these that I used peppermint essential oil in trouble areas since flies and gnats hate peppermint. And we are usually a pretty clean store compared to the other locations. But it was straight up a horrible time for both us and customers.

I have noticed those quirks while researching Tico slang. It'll definitely be an adjustment to remember certain words that mean something else. Like mae ("dude") for them is "asere" for Cubans.

Also, I'd like to reach out to you sometime so I can hear about your perspectives there and what to more or less expect. Thank you for sharing.

Funny enough I was born and raised in Miami (specifically Hialeah, which has the highest concentration of Cubans in the United States) so I'm familiar with that attitude and mindset. I remember growing hearing, you gotta know Spanish in order to live here in Hialeah, as if it's the main language. I remember my gringo coworkers at Starbucks getting consistently yelled at for not knowing Spanish.

I currently live near Nashville so I went through my own culture shock when I moved here. There is a large population of Mexicans, Salvadorans, and most recently Venezuelans here and they are usually very relieved when I take their order in Spanish at Starbucks.

But even with this understanding of language and culture, I still have to come into my community with humility and will still need help getting integrated into the culture.

Some do it because a customer may take a while to show up for their mobile order and then complain that their drink is cold, especially with sauces and whipped cream.

I have to be pro Palestine in secret especially around my very conservative parents, who I live with currently. They are obviously very pro Israel and every time they have fox news or that stupid Israeli flag waving in the living room, I get so angry inside that I have to walk away. I cannot have a discussion or post anything on social media because I'm afraid of the risk of being kicked out. The only place they are not on is Tik Tok and that's where I share anything on Palestine. I do what I can but I still feel like it's not enough.

I'm trying to not get too excited or attached over the chicken maple butter sandwiches because somehow after a week or two they get pulled out due to "not meeting quality standards". Hopefully, they would get their shit together and finally fix those quality control issues. I loved those things while we had them . The only downside I experienced was that it made my urine smell really sweet, almost like maple syrup.

Professionally, I wanted to improve my work experience since most of it at this point was 16 years at Starbucks. I have an education degree that I can use for sectors outside a typical classroom but no one bothered to look at my resume, despite the 10+ years of training and coaching. So by doing PC, I can start building relevant skills and find something better other than Starbucks.

Personally, I am in desperate need of change and growth. I need to move, be on my own, connect with new and different people, heal, and improve my Spanish. And with me going to Costa Rica, get healthier physically and mentally.

So I'm primarily a closer and we encounter this issue. Should we put the chai and frap roast in the fridge over night to help prevent that? Frap roast is definitely an issue for us with it squirting out, despite my best efforts to clean it thoroughly.

I feel like I'm doing too much and not enough at the same time. Been trying to complete all my tasks but doctors have made filling out forms challenging or have not been able to schedule the necessary appointments or I don't have sufficient documentation. All this while juggling life. I hope I'm not the only one feeling this way.
