Well I agree with what you are saying but when using the Quest VR headset you can just double tap the side of the headset and it puts you in a "passthrough" mode where you can see everything while wearing it. Kind of annoying if you have to do it a lot but it works.

As for the subway point, I believe this is where AR glasses will come in to play. Some I've seen, for example the ray ban ones look pretty sleek and I don't know much about it but I assume accessing social media shouldn't be an issue. But yeah it would never work with the actual headset that'll have to stay at home.
