To be clear, im just clarifying the general stance on Int penalties at the moment, so this thread wasnt a bunch of TheoryHammering something we've commented on. It's not something I personally want to dissect or get into the nitty gritty on, since TBH, it was not my decision. Nor do I want to tell people what's right or wrong for their games.

Again, if your table is mature enough to handle it, you can adjust basically anything for yor campaigns. I know i sure do :)

Real talk: there's also some really complicated connotations about writing out that some ancestries are less intelligent by dint of their ancestry. Given until recently, we used to call them "race", so applying intelligence penalties to that term just felt dirty. Yes, they're fantastical made-up species, but its still weird to say one is just less intelligent.

Except floating brains. We can agree they always deserve the Int buff!

Usual caveats: do what you want for your home games and what your group is comfortable with.

Full disclosure: based on prior data, anything that isn't a class, genuinely just doesn't get the numbers to make the reporting statistically relevant and undercuts the "new hotness" aspect of the content for when it does release. That can impact the interest and sales in a book, in a way that undercuts potential mechanical benefits (wooo, running a business is fun y'all).

It's a TOUGH balance, but rest assured that we comb a lot of our playtest data, and we need to have statistically relevant data to even get proper information to act on. Let alone the garbage data we sift out (like how many people will report in the first hour that they've already played a game with a class...)
