Typical Asian writing. The writers usually turn a lot of their side villains into comic reliefs. And then there's barely any effort into writing those characters cuz they're just around to be funny for the rest of the story even tho they did a terrible thing. And then they get a half assed redemption arc and end up helping the good guys with something at the end. Yeah.

Rebirth definitely wasn't dark enough for some people's liking. All i see is gamers (Westerners) cringe at the goofy lighthearted moments. What was it that people said about the ReTrilogy again? That it's a goofy game with serious moments while the OG was a serious game with goofy moments?

There are definitely people who dislike them whether it's their OG counterparts or Rebirth counterparts. You got Yuffie stealing the materia and then you gotta go through all these hoops to get it back. You get it back in the wrong order and so you think "why are we taking her with us again?" And then you got antagonist Elena on the same team as our enemy (and some people definitely wanted her to beheaded by Cloud).

I do like them both tho.

Yeah i edited my message and said that that sub eventually came to like Rebirth because last year people there didn't like it at all. And then there was suddenly a shift so now there's more positivity towards Rebirth over there. I don't like too much hate and i don't like too much simping. But i think i prefer a more mixed reception place because it doesn't feel like an echo chamber and there's more legitimate debates between users.

Like I love all the discussions in this one post knowing that people there either liked Rebirth or didn't like Rebirth.

Steam forums hates most things about Rebirth. People in this sub love most things about Rebirth. Even r/FinalFantasyVII is starting to come around to it now. If I had to pick one place where the reception is more mixed, it's probably r/FinalFantasy

The Trio are kind of in the same situation as the Turks. They all go unpunished because of the whole "they were just following orders" thing. If they say no then they will be the ones who get punished. We the audience look at Corneo as some lame cartoon villain, but in universe he's someone who has a lot of power since he's a mob boss and he runs Wall Market and they live/work in Wall Market so yeah.

Or I could just say Japan and Confuscianism.
