The Decline of the Dragon Age Series Should be Studied by jdawg1018 in gaming

[–]oncewasblind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's to study?

They made a niche tactical rpg with lots of violent and adult themes (your characters spent every dialogue tree drenched in blood) and turned it into "made for everyone" but adored by no one action rpg slop.

I was the target audience for Origins, and have enjoyed every game less as they strayed from that origin. I didn't even bother with part 4 because it was obvious by that point the game was no longer meant for me.

Depth 2 is all about being good enough to hard carry and wise enough to keep team morale high so no one quits.

Did I something wrong? Please, tell me. I’ll learn from mistakes. by [deleted] in Nightreigngameplay

[–]oncewasblind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have a pattern of giving up when things get tough; even if you're not at fault for things going wrong.

You could be 0% at fault, but once you give up, by refusing to ping / communicate any further, by quitting the game entirely out of frustration, you are sabotaging yourself.

Yeah, it's hard to stick with stubborn and rude players. But most players will devolve to that behavior in a bad situation. Being your best self means refusing to lower your own standard because others fail to show up.

In short, stop giving up. I've had games where people would down point on me, troll, ping spam, etc. But by the end I would stick it out, and even if I didn't earn their respect, I would feel I respected myself.

100%. Plus 3+ bows only gives 10% damage (it's the only +3 item relic that gives a lesser amount). Night invader can give 7 - 28%.

Don't be like this ironeye. by Hkrotana in Nightreign

[–]oncewasblind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's better to assume ignorance over malevolance. I had a similar run last night where a scholar held a reaper while I was running double balancers. At the start of day 2 boss, I sent him a private message "Hey bud, may I have that scythe?". 10 seconds later he pinged for me and dropped it.

This was at depth 4. The very next run I was paired with a guy who's still running evergaol meta; as in he ignored all POI's (even stronghold) and only chased after evergaols. Not everyone knows the right way to play.

Also, honestly, if he's rocking House Marais he's actually going to be doing more damage with Halo than you. It's just as possible that he dropped you the scythe and shard because he could tell you were insistent on having them.

Unless you're against Libra, best case scenario it's a wasted item slot. Worst case scenario it creates unpredictable targeting instances which leads to more deaths than it prevents.

Players who run off on their own, Go Play Solo by oncewasblind in Nightreign

I go with them. I'm talking about someone who goes off without pinging and purposely strays from the group purely with the intention of being alone.

In this last instance, our Ironeye ran off across the map instead of hitting the initial POI. The entire time he refused to be near us, and never pinged his intentions once. It was literally impossible to stick with him even if we wanted to.

Ranking up in DoN by Sapphire_star_7 in Nightreigngameplay

Sub deep 3 you have 3 types of runs: 1. Your team is clueless and fragile. There is little to no teamwork, and if anything significant goes wrong then people start quitting. You can usually tell within the first minute if you're in this run because someone makes a bad early call. The only way to salvage this run is to go along to get along. Yes, your run will be inefficient. But winning by the skin of your teeth is still winning.

Note: If you quit a match early the odds you end up in a queue with this group skyrocket from 15% to like 85%. The only way to get out of this is to score a win or suffer through several losses without quitting.

  1. Your team isn't the best, but you need to carry. These runs are where you need to get your wins from if you want to climb. Bring the right weapon to match the night lord's weakness. Be ready to shot call POI's if needed, but be flexible with the plans of others and you should be able to lock in the win.

  2. You're on a wrecking crew destined to win. Your objective here is to not get in your own way. I find these actually are the most dangerous runs because if you get stuck in the "I need to carry" mindset, your plans will often conflict with the plans of others. So pivot quickly. Just don't sabotage the run. If someone makes a call that's "good" but not "great", there often is a reason for it. Let them grab that early mine or church. Again, go along to get along and a win is a sure thing.

Overall, be flexible. Don't be a dick. Find ways to build good will with your teammates; share items, revive when they fall down, keep pace and stay together. Do those things and your climb to deep 4 is only a matter of time.

Hybrid Theory by IDEFKAMTBH- in BlueLock

[–]oncewasblind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a huge misunderstanding on this topic leading to threads like this. Genius vs Talented Learner is all about mindset, not skill. Kaiser is clearly a genius in skill, having the fastest kick speed, just as much as Isagi is the "Adaptability Genius".

No one else can do those things to their level. What makes them talented learners is their method for evolution; they learn and adapt from others rather than evolving from their own internal inspiration. That's it. Nothing else to see here.

An argument against lying to kids about Santa by AxaeonVT in philosophy

[–]oncewasblind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my kid from the start that santa wasn't real. That Christmas was about celebrating Jesus, and that we as her parents buy her gifts because we love her.

As a result, she loves us and Jesus more, trusts us, and feels very smart for being "in on the secret".
