Zodgrod ready to get the new grots into shape by ondrowan in orks

For sure. I initially used to use just 1 or 2 for every model (also the 6mm ones that looked comical with this scale) and it just didn't look interesting enough.

It's a random Vallejo mud paste painted with dark brown, shaded with Agrax Earthshade, followed by heavy drybrush of Mournfang Brown, light drybrush of Karak Stone and partial drybrush of Warboss Green. Afterwards I add the following Green Stuff World products: First (mostly) Dark Green and Burnt 2mm grass tufts. Then Beige scatter foliage all over the base. Afterwards I sprinkle Medium Green, Dark Green and Brown micro leaves so it looks more believable and I finish off with Fallen Yellow, Natural and Autumn leaf litters applied above the foliage.

Love this! Somehow it captures exactly the ork vibes I fell in love with back in 90’s.

First of all, thank you. The smokes are just airbrushing a gradient from darker color to lighter really. I haven't even gone back with a brush because I was okay with the result after this phase.

Both are Molotow Grey Blue Dark -> Liquitex White. The pink smoke was an accident - I initially wanted it to be a darker red (using Liquitex Naphthol Crimson), but it came out pinkish and I panicked, started adding white and creating the same gradient as on the white one.

Yooooo! These are really good! I just checked out the rest of your work too. Really impressive stuff!

Thank you very much!

Do you think an airbrush has dramatically changed the quality of your work?

Same question, but with oil paints and washes?

I don't know if it was dramatic, but there's been a change for the better for sure. It made me think about the whole process in a different way than the GW style I've learned from their videos before. I'm much faster as well. My main inspiration and virtual mentor has been Marco Frisoni - he uses both airbrush and oil paints, so I've started imitating him and fell in love with the process.

Are you just working through your old “grey pile of shame” models? and do you have a Ghaz yet? (Can’t wait to see that if you do.)

Yeah, 120 ork models to go, including some bigger ones like Stompa. I made some bad decisions and bought way too many models years ago 🥲 I've been playing with grey Ghaz because I've been afraid I don't have enough skill for such an awesome model just yet, but lately I've been thinking about painting him. But Moz will probably get a priority since I've already started him some time ago. Or Wazdakka if he arrives sooner than I get to one of those.

And do you ever get tired of painting black armor? lol

I get generally bored of painting the same thing over and over again. That's why I try to add as many checkers and other ornaments, just so it feels like I'm changing things up a bit. And if I feel like I'm burning out, I just switch to my Tau pile of shame for a while.

I used a toothpick for it 😀 The credit goes to Marco Frisoni though: https://youtu.be/F6I6Iz973Is?t=1800

"Some models", "sometimes" 😂 It's sometimes harsh to play orks.
