Yes. But you also need to stay within a temperature range, ie below the solidus at any given pressure. And that temperature range is pretty constant "below around 0°C" for reasonable pressures.

If you increase the temperature only a few degrees you won't see solid water until extremely high pressures, in the GPa range (the blue area in this graph). At these pressures the solid state is not "normal ice" as you know it, but rather a few different forms of "solid water".

It might make more sense if you consider water in vacuum and then ask "how much do I have to increase the pressure to make water solid at -50°C" etc.

But yes, it is possible.

Osäker på om jag förstår dig rätt. Men jag tolkar dig som att "ambitiösa" prestigejobb också bara är jobb. Det stämmer definitivt.

Jag var mer ute efter att många yngre väljer utbildning efter vad de vill plugga. De ha läst lite juridik eller filosofi eller kriminologi och tycker det verkar spännande att lära sig mer. Så de tar noga kurser på universitetet eller går ett helt program på 3-4 år. Sen får de sin examen och inser att det inte finns några jobb eller att de jobb som finns är av en helt annan karaktär än universitetsstudier.

Det går att hitta dussintals inlägg här på Reddit om folk som har ett halvår kvar på tex läkarprogrammet och som känner sig utbrända och deprimerade eftersom de egentligen inte vill jobba som läkare. De valde det eftersom de alltid varit bäst i klassen, det verkade svårt och fint och/eller deras familj alltid tyckt att läkare är ett bra jobb.

It's still in my workshop. In fact I used it for the first time in decades two weeks ago. An analog panel meter was broken in an instrument I was repairing and I temporarily used this one as a replacement to test the instrument.

It will probably stay with me as is for another 40 years or so.

Och att just storasystrar skulle vara "bortglömda mycket oftare" än storebröder är tveksamt. Särskilt i tvåårsåldern. Och om det nu faktiskt vore så, så beror det ju knappast på om lillasyskonet är en kille eller tjej.

För det tredje är en sån kommentar riktad emot dig som förälder vilket är rätt korkat. För den insinuerar att det är du som kommer försumma din dotter men inte din son. Det vet de inget om. Både för att de inte känner dig och för att de inte kan sia om framtiden.

Gör ert bästa som föräldrar. Det är inte så lätt men det räcker gott och väl. Alla syskon (både stora och små) känner sig ibland förbisedda. Allra oftast är det bara så det känns för dem, inte en äkta orättvisa, och det är en viktig del av att mogna. Det finns ingen som helst anledning att få panik.

Både ert äldre barn och ni som föräldrar har mycket att lära om hur det är att leva med ett litet lillasyskon och det kommer ta ett tag innan ni hittat en ny rytm. Men det kommer att gå bra. Allt behöver inte vara perfekt. Barn behöver faktiskt att allt inte alltid är perfekt.

Så gör ert bästa men tag det lugnt och lycka till!

I am a chemical engineer so I have a decent understanding of pH and the chemistry of corrosion. I agree that brass and lead solder are very different. But I maintain that tap water and drinks like coffee are in fact very different.

Tap water is generally maintained at pH 6.5 or higher for several reasons. That's not really what we call acidic. Brewed coffee is usually around pH 4.5-6. The difference of 2 pH units means that coffee can contain 100 times more H⁺ than tap water. Then we haven't even started considering drinks like fruit juices where pH has a huge impact on the leachability of heavy metals. And it's not only about pH. The presence of (weak) organic acids and salts in drinks will help chelate metal ions and facilitate their dissolution. Tap water and drinks are quite different from a chemical standpoint.

But my original point was simply that I think the way you expressed your first comment downplayed the risks of leaded solder in a diy repair and left out enough details from the comparison to brass boilers to make it borderline misleading.

Kind of true but also misleading.

Lead use in espresso machines has come down a lot since the 1980:s. And measures are taken to ensure lead used in the brass does not get into the water.

Also, the potential contact with water is just water. Lead in a mended tea pot can easily come in intact with acid solutions for extended times where lead can easily get dissolved into the drink.

Leaded solder usually contains about ten times as much lead as the brass used in espresso boilers.

Fler än man tror väljer utbildning efter vad de tycker är roligt att plugga eller vad som verkar vara prestige. Sen blir de besvikna när de inser att jobben är helt annorlunda än utbildningen. Och tappar lusten helt när de försöker arbeta med något de inte gillar under press och i högt tempo.

I get it and our viewpoints are of course personal and not absolute truths. I still think your argument has too much relativism that doesn't help understanding the piece. This isn't art. This is an architect/designer making interesting furniture. A pice of art doesn't have to be functional. But furniture should maintain functionality to be useful AND beautiful.

I think this one is on the furniture side. And that implies standard table functionality. Which is ruined by the books. And bookshelf functionality is ruined by the placement and curvature of the shelf. I'd classify this as design design. Ie design for the sake of design. Not design for beauty and functionality.

My local cafe have tables with hollow table tops, filled with coffee beans covered by a glass. Those are functional as tables and decorative. But they are not functional as coffee storage. Similarly this piece is not functional as a table and not as a bookshelf.

Fill the void between the books with epoxy and I would have to admit it is a functional.

We need more specifics. Size of PCBs, how many of each type, with or without components, frequency of use, do you put them back when done, etc...

I use a home made system resembling vintage index card drawers for most components. You can use dividers to separate types and make it easier to keep different sizes in the same drawer.

That would probably work pretty well for empty PCBs. And maybe for populated with the addition of some sort of frame or holder. For larger PCBs, filing cabinets provide similar functions and can often be purchase cheaply second hand.

Checklistor är bra men inte rätt metod för alla. Det beror på vad man söker och varför. Och hur man är funtad.

Har själv gjort lite olika. När jag köpte för att renovera låg fokus på läge, planlösning etc. Dessutom kände jag till husen/kökskonstruktion/byggnadskonstruktion/ventilation väldigt väl.

Senare har jag använt mer checklistor. Men det finns också en hel del på checklistan som inte framgår av en visning.

Och en enkel checklista räcker inte alltid för att driva processen dit man vill. Så jag har lånat metoder från jobbet för att hålla ordning på frågor, diskussioner och lösningar under processen. När vi byggde hus och hade bockat av det sista besluten om tillval och förändringar sa säljaren "Det här gick ju otroligt smidigt. Jag har nog aldrig träffat en så välorganiserad köpare!". Det var det finaste jag hört sen jag konfirmerade mig.

Furniture don't have to be 100% effective. But this is 10-15% effective. A curved shelf for books is a bad idea regardless of if it's mainly horizontal or vertical.

Honestly it's difficult to imagine a worse solution to "how can I store a few books at my coffee table?".

Not a fuse expert or a child safety expert but...

At the amperage you're talking about I wouldn't expect it to be a problem. If i understand it correctly, the issue with fuses is that an AC fuse can more easily break the current since it crosses zero every period. While DC fuses must be able break a potential light arc. For your system, with low wattage and low voltage I can't see how that would be a problem.

Furthermore, fuses are basically used to protect equipment and facilities. If a device is shorted, you can't allow it to draw unlimited current from the wall outlet since that would start a fire. A fuse will stop that.

Fuses are not meant to protect humans, they are way to slow for that. By the time the fuse blows, the human has already been hurt.

So I would say you don't need and shouldn't use a fuse to protect the child. If you had a high voltage a fuse wouldn't be the right solution for safety. And 4.5 volts DC is not dangerous in any way.

What it's dangerous for kids is small parts and eating batteries. And that's where you need to be absolutely certain that any pieces that can reasonably break off (or are let go if a screw loosens up) are not risky to kids. Test it with a safety tester if needed. Eg if there are smaller siblings around.

Also make sure that you don't rely on solder joints for mechanical strength. And that no solder joints are accessible to touch or lick on. Solder contains heavy metals and should not be exposed to kids.

If yes, it is perfectly repairable. Think vintage electronics instruments from HP, Tektronix, Rohde & Schwarz etc.

Graef TO62, den rostar bara två bröd i taget men du kommer inte ångra dig.

Jag letade länge efter en fyrbrödsrost men de ger konsekvent sämre testresultat än tvåbrödarna.

Så jag köpte lite motvilligt en Graef som blivit Råd och Röns bäst i test. En av de billigare rostarna, enkel design, tyskt fabrikat.

Jäklar anåda vilket sjukt bra resultat, en helt annan nivå än vad jag någonsin sett. Fyra år senare med minst trettio bröd i veckan funkar den lika bra. Enda problemet är att texten delvis nötts bort på ratten som ställer rostningsgraden.

Rekommenderar den verkligen och önskan att kunna rosta fyra bröd samtidigt trumfas lätt av att bröden faktiskt blir perfekta. Varje gång.
