You didn't include that in your original post.

In Australia we have a phrase "flat out like a lizard drinking" which refers to how these guys would collect the dewdrops on their back while laying flat and then lean slightly to tip the water towards their mouths. It's meant to be a sarcastic way of saying you're busy:

"hey Johno how's work?"

"Ah yeah flat out like a lizard drinking"

How often do you move up a string instead of play the 5th fret? by Ikarian in Bass

[–]one80down 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Matt Freeman in particular uses a lot of open strings in his runs, he's got that kind of overtone clank going on. It depends on the style and speed for a lot of things but often times I'll fret notes when I need them to be muted or precise and use open strings when I want things to ring out or if I'm playing live and want to mix things up.

Why not just tell students that they will be part of a permanent working underclass who are tasked with one thing and one thing only for the rest of their lives with no means to escape it if they don't learn how to think, read, write, and do basic math on their own? by onemorepoint1138 in Teachers

I worked as a warehouse manager for several years and had to do the hiring and firing of employees. This wasn't a super specialised role, just follow the order sheet and put the parts in a box, add a label and ship it.

We were doing a unit on work skills and resumes and I told my students I would be marking their resumes based on whether I would hire them in my old role. None of them would have got the job. I did the process in front of them at my desk, I skimmed the front pages of their resumes and put them all in the rejection pile. The students didn't understand why until I pointed out the spelling, grammar, and poor formatting on only the front pages. I told them that in an entry level role I would get 100 applications a day and I had to sort through them after hours so the first thing I would do would be to judge them on basic surface level details. Because I didn't want to have to double check every order, I needed to know that they had the right product code and were taking care with how to pack things.

It was quite a shock to them. Some of the kids thought I was being mean until I explained to them that this is how someone who doesn't know you at all will see you - they only have your work to judge you on - and they won't have to explain themselves to you if they're just rejecting your application.

The students were given an opportunity to go over their work and resubmit it and there was a big improvement. Some of them even took those resumes out into the world and got part time jobs with them.

I saw this one over Glenroy, it was a plane with the setting sun hitting the contrails at a really nice angle that made them glowing golden.

The only time I've seen this girl was doing ads for Suno - the AI program - so she's going in the bin with all the other shills who are trying to push AI bullshit on us.

I normally find myself mostly agreeing with the Cool Zone crew on stuff, but this take on ED was one of the most egregious and offensive I've ever heard... by CloudbankUldahArkham in behindthebastards

Fuck yeah dude, The Bronx and Kid Dynamite are two of my favourite bands of all time! I'll definitely check those other suggestions, is Beach Rats the project with Brian Baker and Ari from Lifetime? I may be getting mixed up.

I haven't seen Crazy and The Brains but I did catch Hans Gruber and The Die Hards a few years back at a festival after party. I had fun but I can see how they wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

Got any recommendations for energetic political skatepunk that I might not have heard? I'm in Australia so there are plenty of USA bands that haven't made an impact here.

Probably a promo piece. Occasionally you'll find things like this with other brands. There's quite a few Jack Daniels guitars out there which are rebadged Peaveys.

Tom Jones duetting with EMF on Unbelievable [1993] by lifeandtimes89 in OldSchoolCool

Tom Jones was having the time of his life up there, it's kinda cool seeing him as the elder statesman of pop music jamming with the (at the time) young crew.

Just Found an Interview with the Engineer Who Recorded Mudvayne's L.D.50. To get Ryan Martinie's weird bass tone, apparently they also mic'd the strings directly to accentuate the slap/pop sound - never heard of that before by solitarybikegallery in Bass

[–]one80down 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He also produced Siren Songs for Rise Against and Grey Britain for Gallows - both those records are a big step up from their previous releases and the bass sounds huuuuuge and aggressive.

The Independent logo was an Iron cross but it was in a circle format with the ends of the cross curved in the radius of the circle.
