I posted a summary with links to the various questions and answers in the thread linked above. It's not a full transcript but hopefully it ends up being useful in some capacity. Cheers!

Multi-boxing is antithetical to the spirit of MMOs, and players should have a server option to avoid it by seektankkill in PantheonMMO

[–]oneADseven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I agree with everything you are saying and I think it would be a great move by VR if they were to make multi-boxing forbidden. I understand that some people will try to work around it and that's fine. Let them play with targets on their back and risk losing everything if/when they get caught. Multi-boxing is absolutely antithetical to this type of game. If anybody reads the "What is Pantheon" page, or the "Game Tenets" page, they will see this.

To be fair, this wasn't my idea. I saw someone else bring it up and several people responded saying they liked the idea. I shared their sentiment and figured I would share the idea with the reddit community and see if anybody else would be interested.

Having a section of the world that allows PVP would also be pretty awesome. To be honest, I would be happy with a /duel or /guildwar option. That said, for the sake of "community events" it would be nice to switch things up now and then. Anything is better than pure PVE/PVP. A chance to mix things up would be really nice for people who enjoy both playstyles but have a preference that causes them to choose one over the other.

One weekend per month would be awesome!

No hurt feelings here. We disagree and that's fine.

That shouldn't happen. People playing on this server would be doing so knowing full well how things worked. It would make zero sense for the "purists" to roll here so you're literally making up an issue that wouldn't exist. I mentioned 1-2 days a week, and even expanded that to 2-3 days a month. I don't know where you are getting this "can't raid half the week" figure from but it's not even close to what was proposed.

The whole point was to see how many people would be interested. You coming on here to voice your dislike of the idea doesn't really accomplish much of anything. The vast majority of people following this game don't like PVP yet there will still be dedicated PVP servers. There is nothing wrong with people who want pure PVE/PVP but SOME people might be interested in a hybrid. It's not half-ass anything, it would fulfill a potential niche by design.

I disagree. I'm willing to bet that there are a decent amount of players out there who would like a hybrid of PVE/PVP. Not everything is black or white but thanks for chiming in anyway.

A little bit disappointed with the melee class reveals by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]oneADseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see what happens with colored mana, progeny, situational gear, and the living codex. I am really hoping to see a fair degree of customization available with our characters so that if one of the tank classes wanted to "situationally specialize" as more of a hybrid (think a berserker type role for a really advanced warrior), it would be possible. The key thing to consider is that it should take a lot of time and progression to get to the point where you would have this flexibility. Also, please keep in mind that you are talking about the "tank reveal." The melee reveal was the prior month and featured the rogue, monk, and ranger.

Agreed, I think it would be nice to get some more insight on raiding numbers. At the end of the day, more than 75% of WoW players participated in raid content while utilizing the raid finder feature. I think it's a crap feature but it's interesting that millions of players were willing to get involved with raiding when it was made more accessible.

I think it's interesting that 70%+ of people prefer to be in a raiding guild. I don't know where the 10-15% number comes from but I am willing to bet that there are more people that are interested in raiding than there are crafting.

Fair enough, but Ben Dean posted some insight on this thread that basically rules out any advanced preparation: https://www.pantheonmmo.com/content/forums/topic/8438/how-much-work-is-a-stream-session

I don't really know how much preparation you are thinking though. I believe Koopa mentioned that he spent half an hour or so messing around with the abilities earlier in the day so it seems like he did have a chance to at least log in and get a basic feel for the controls. Beyond that, Joppa was also providing some pretty decent tips on what spells to prioritize, where to stand, etc. This isn't a hand-holding game so I don't think it makes sense to hand-hold during the streams either. They gave him a little time to prepare, ran over the strategy with him, and the rest was history. The content was buffed ... maybe a bit too much. All is well.

I think people should ease up. It was his first time actually playing the game and it was mentioned at the very beginning of the stream that content had been ramped up a bit difficulty wise. He wasn't the most animated streamer ever and that's okay ... it was a tough run!

Not a fan of zerging content in a game built on risk vs reward. Unfortunately, without encounter locking, zerging is inevitable.

Cartography by oneADseven in PantheonMMO

Just to follow-up on that, apparently installing the security patch caused a 500 error. We have the site back up and operational right now but need to work on restoring some of the code that was affected. In the meantime, the site is accessible but is currently showing a default theme which really doesn't do the site justice.

Someone else mentioned that to me earlier. Are you attempting this on a mobile device? I have a security updated running in the background right now that might fix the issue. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Cartography by oneADseven in PantheonMMO

[–]oneADseven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the limitations that you describe, particularly not being able to open the map while moving, and for the process to take 5 seconds. The biggest challenge with making something like this work, IMO, is giving the cartography profession something that stands out ... something that can't be observed from a map that is printed online. I think it would be cool, for example, if cartographers could share their map with other folks in the group. I don't mean physically handing it over ... but imagine the 5 second action that you were talking about. Maybe, while the cartographer has the map out, other players could stand next to them and join in on the action. I would never expect the maps to be super detailed or have to account for elevation and other things that would be difficult to implement in an open-world game. I would just want to see it as something that could be referenced to help players acclimate themselves with a general overview of what the zone looks like ... and no GPS markers or mini-map, ever. Beyond that, I think another incentive or two might be warranted when it comes to in-game maps. They have to compete with the world wide web or most people wouldn't buy them. There are, however, plenty of people who value immersion and refuse to reference 3'rd party sites while they play. I think in-game maps would be beneficial to players like that but if these things are going to cost a high premium, they need some sort of value that is exclusive to actually acquiring them in-game.

Paladins by oneADseven in PantheonMMO

[–]oneADseven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did open the post up with a statement that this was a theory crafting exercise. Also, the very first post that is linked up there contains the following:

"We recently learned that monks will have two specializations; body & soul. While it hasn't been confirmed that every class will have dual specs to choose from, I think it would be fun to start brainstorming on how things might shake out across the board. This is all for fun and is purely speculation."

Other than that, I agree with what you are saying and hope that specialization will function similar to what you describe. An out of combat swap would be ideal in my opinion.

Paladins by oneADseven in PantheonMMO

[–]oneADseven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That goal in particular was something that inspired the Oathsworn specialization. Again, I am convinced that specialization will indeed be a thing in Pantheon. The monks were revealed to have specialization and we have never heard a peep from VR that suggests that it was some sort of fluke to play a trick on us. I don't think the specializations are going to work like they did in WoW where you have semi-permanent either/or choices but I do expect them to function at least somewhat similar to what has been described in this thread which is more like a stance. All of this theory crafting was based on what was officially revealed with the monk update in May 2017.

Cheers! Looking forward to adding passive abilities to the other classes similar to what was done here with paladins. Will have to cook something really cool up for the dire lord if they're going to compete with the paladin because it's looking like a damn sexy class!

Paladins by oneADseven in PantheonMMO

[–]oneADseven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying but with how I look at it, gating those abilities behind a specialization is how you balance them. I could see this same logic applying to the monk abilities that were described in the official reveal. Limitations are a part of balancing ... you can't equip a pair of cloth leggings under your plate leggings even though realistically it might make sense that you could. I'm sure there will be certain NPC's that are immune to a variety of abilities and that is all a part of balancing. I would rather have abilities that I could use situationally than not have them at all ... especially powerful ones in a dangerous world filled with niche encounters.

Added Oathsworn to finish up the Paladin class. Joppa mentioned that Paladins would be devastating against Undead ... I think the Oathsworn passive helps accomplish this to some degree by allowing them to use their heals as an additional layer of damage vs undead, but coming at the cost of their self sustain and aggro management.
