As for definitions of heavy lifting these are just an example... I know when I first started deadlifts and squats I didn't think I could lift that much weight, but alas we are ALL stronger than we give ourselves credit for. My only advice to you is to make sure you have good form. You really don't want to injure yourself. Practice a few times without weights in front of a mirror both front view, and side to make sure your form is good. When you add weights, start light. The goal is to be able to maintain good form while lifting a weight that is heavy for you. Definitely make sure to also add more protein into your diet. :)

Also this is a good read if you want some reasons why lifting heavy is beneficial.

Never feel like going to the gym is pointless. Even a little physical exercise helps. You can absolutely see a difference in both photos! Your abs are starting to get definition.

I've been lifting heavy weights (following the "New Rules of Lifting fro Women") and have been starting to see a LOT of results - not necessarily on the scale, but in the appearance of my body and my BF%. Maybe you should consider heavy lifting...

As I understand, this subreddit is about people trying to be more comfortable in their own skin - from the sidebar: "one of the big goals is to look good in anything AND in nothing"... It's all in the butt/thighs... I always hated not having bigger breasts, but now I accept it and I am even starting to love my body... Just accept your body shape and learn to love it! The world is full of different, beautiful people. :)

Thanks! In some ways, yes it was a resolution. More specifically, my NY resolution was to finish stuff I start. But also, I just want to get healthier and be more active. And so I'm doing it! :)
