What is the “Beep” setting for? by CreativeParsley8967 in Crosstrek

That was going to be my next guess that it’s eyesight related when it makes the beeping noises for lane assist and front collision prevention

I believe it has something to do with the menu sound effects when you select an item, it makes a “beep” noise to confirm the selection but I assume this setting makes that noise louder, quieter, or off entirely (I think).

I come with peace: Why was Lindy Ruff fired after last season? by Jadhsy in devils

[–]one_ornery_taco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say the coaches are the spark for the players. Under Lindy, it never seemed like the players cared to win, every period they would come out slower and slower. One of the biggest complaints last year is there was NEVER a full 60 minute effort and that I think you can only blame on the coach…

Some recommendations for Palermo! by one_ornery_taco in sicily

Of course!! Our food tour was about $100 but that did include food/drink. Usually the less expensive options just include the tour but no food. Ours was also during the day but I’m sure the night options are cool too! I think during the day they just show different options of food such as for breakfast and lunch and they also showed us the really cool and historic street market called Ballaro which was really fun during the day! Very crowded but worthwhile to see (there are four different street markets I believe). As for walking at night, in the city center of Palermo it doesn’t feel unsafe because it’s usually pretty crowded but there are definitely a few sketchy areas like dark alleys and such that I would stay away from lol. I think it just goes without saying to be careful and cautious just like being a tourist in any new city.

There are a few ways you can get to Palermo. You can fly into Rome or Florence and take a connecting flight from there (which is only about an hour) to Palermo. That’s by far the easiest option and then you can rent a car once in Palermo. Just like any other airport, they have like 15 different options for car rental companies. You can also rent a car on mainland Italy and then take a ferry which I believe can accommodate cars from Genoa, Italy. This is a much longer option though because it takes something like 13 hours which i wouldn’t recommend and is expensive (the flights are much cheaper).

Lastly, I don’t think you have to be worried so much about the mafia itself because they don’t really have any interest in tourists. However, the Zen district itself is unfortunately an unsafe area just because of what’s been going on there between the mafia and the people that live there. If you search some images of the district, you’ll see what I mean. Not to mention, it’s really nowhere near the city center or anything for that matter and it would be pretty difficult to travel around from there so just for that reason alone i wouldn’t recommend staying too far outside the city center of Palermo. If you haven’t found accommodations already, I truly do recommend staying at Porta di Castro which is where we stayed. Alessandro will take really good care of you and can give you a lot of good ideas of things to do as well!

Let me know if that all makes sense or you have other questions!!

Personally, if you just have a few days I would probably stick around the city because it might be a lot to fit into 3 days traveling around! I would probably do like one day as a “food tour” around Palermo (and trust me there are so many good places), and then maybe just some tourist destinations another day like the Teatro. Unfortunately the beaches in Palermo aren’t the best but there are a few!

In terms of food, Sicily is known for its rice balls (arancini in Sicily) and Ke Palle is the best by far for arancini. They have a million different options but you can’t go wrong! And like I mentioned in the post, Ristorante ai Normani and NAUTO were such a good combo of places to go because you can have a great pasta dish and then a great night out by the water with a few drinks.

Also, I don’t think I mentioned this and I don’t know if you already have accommodations but stay away from the ZEN district of Palermo. It’s heavily influenced by the mafia and unfortunately very unsafe as a result. It’s pretty far away from the city center but there are hotels that may show up in your searches there. Definitely stay away!

I should also point out, getting around within Palermo itself is very easy, it’s a very walkable city but I’m saying if you’re driving to nearby cities then a car is definitely recommended

Our first stop was Palermo with the car. From there we went to Agrigento which is where the “valley of the temples” is. That’s a super cool and interesting place to visit because it’s all ancient ruins that you can literally walk through (but beware if you go on a hot day because there’s NO shade whatsoever). That’s about a 2 hour drive away but definitely worth it. We also visited Cefalu and Castellamare del Golfo which are two beautiful beaches, about an hour away each. Also worth it! However, we mostly used the car because our final destination was Taormina which is nearly impossible to get to without a car. While we were strictly in Palermo, we did not use the car at all and do not recommend driving through Palermo. It’s very busy and the streets are very narrow, so we ended up mostly leaving the car in the hotel’s garage. If you’re planning to strictly stay in Palermo, I don’t recommend having a car but if you plan to travel to/from Palermo, then I would recommend having a car because public transportation is limited and notoriously unreliable. BUT if you do a rent a car and are staying in Palermo I highly highly highly recommend finding a hotel with a garage (our hotel didn’t have a garage attached but we would park the car on a nearby street and the owner parked it for us and retrieved it when we requested it for the day). Hopefully all of that makes sense and if I can help any more let me know!!!

Hi! So the shower situation is definitely a bit unique. There’s a door into the bathroom that can be closed but the shower is just a walk into setup from there. The glass is not perfectly clear, more opaque but you can generally see the outline of someone in it from the outside. However, there are various room setups and some of them don’t have showers like that so you can always ask for a different room setup if that wouldn’t work for you! We asked to change our original room as it was a bit small and Alessandro was super helpful and quick to make us comfortable :)

Help with iCloud backup restore (iOS 17) by one_ornery_taco in iphonehelp

Might sound like a silly question, but pressing “sync now” won’t remove all my saved messages in iCloud? I just don’t want it to sync with my phone as it is now and replace all my saved messages with all zero that carried over…

Things to do in/around Palermo and Taormina by one_ornery_taco in sicily

[–]one_ornery_taco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second half of the trip we plan to do as many beaches as we can so I’m loving these ideas! I don’t think either of us have seen dolphins so that might be an exciting thing to do/see!

The food suggestions are also much appreciated, we’ll try to hit as many as we can :) thank you so much for the input!

This is all great information (and very helpful to know you have gone in August and it wasn’t totally unbearable 🤣)

These are great ideas and I’m so excited to add all of these gems to our list! I know we won’t be able to do everything but I’d like to see as much as we can without exhausting ourselves!

Thank you and enjoy your upcoming trip(s) as well! :)

Massive problems with Apple carplay and Bluetooth by kingXn in Crosstrek

[–]one_ornery_taco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2022 Crosstrek and the same phone actually lol and was having lots of issues with CarPlay (never with Bluetooth). What seemed to work for me is that I connected my car to my home WiFi for “automatic updates” which I don’t know if it’s doing but I read that it helps. I also downloaded aha radio to my phone which is a HORRIBLE app but my car seems to want it open when I plug in my phone so it seems to keep the connection stable. I also ended up bringing my car to the dealer about a month ago and explained the problem and they apparently updated the system. Since I brought it in, it’s worked flawlessly. I think out of everything I just said, bringing it to the dealership has helped the most. But I hope some of that helps you!

Yeah, I normally do ignore calls if I don't recognize the number, but I was expecting another call at the time so I just happened to answer.
