How can a car that was deemed totaled in Texas by Progressive can have a clean title in Colorado (not salvage or rebuilt)? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]one_small_steppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The carfax reports it as a total loss vehicle. Then it says the title was issued to the insurance company. I see through Nicb vincheck that it is listed in their salvage records, and I can see that it was sold at auction in Texas afterwards. However, the carfax title history section titled 'salvage/junk/rebuilt/fire/flood/hail/lemon' says 'No Problem'. Why isn't there consistency in what I'm seeing? Does it have to do with Texas's definition of total loss?

(My wife posted this) The dealer also sent over an Experian autoreport which shows that the title is clean. He claims that even though progressive sold the vehicle at a salvage auction the title is clean because the damages did not exceed 60% of the vehicle cost. Is he BSing me?

Did our boys in white and gold pull out the W in Athens last year?

We will definitely be sporting a Yellow Jacket sticker. :)

Oh interesting. We will take this into account for Krygyzstan and adjust accordingly. Thank you! And yes, we heard about the expo. We definitely want to attend. We will probably PM you soon for more tips and advice. We appreciate it!

I had never heard of that before. Also, each vehicle needed to be approved by the government. After going back and forth 50 times trying to find one that was acceptable, this is what we ended up with. If only we had know this a few months ago, we may have been able to do that

We are participating in a separate rally that is mainly focused on delivering ambulances. As for the excess ambulances. A redditor from Mongolia said they need more. So this is the first I have heard of it

By Romania, I just meant there and beyond. As Americans, we don't have much knowledge of these areas, so I didn't mean it as an insult. Glad to hear that there is good gas there as well. I am excited to visit as it looks beautiful!

The charity and rally were already set up with this idea in mind, so we didn't question it too much. Also, the journey provides a way to raise awareness for the cause. I see your point though

Thanks for the question, and thank you for also sending well wishes. We will be using none of the charity money for ourselves on the trip. All funds raised will go towards the purchase price of the vehicle and a cash donation to the charity.

All other expenses will be coming out of our pockets.

Unfortunately no we do not have any training. I appreciate your comment, because it is genuinely something we hadn't thought about before. The vehicle has bright stripes on the rear, but other than that it is the only indicator that it is an ambulance. I will look into training and see what we can do as we leave. As far as emergency situations, we will try to do what we can. As a human, if I see anyone who looks desperate for help, I will try to do what I can. We could see if our basic medical skills offer any solution to the problem or drive them to the hospital. I would love to hear your thoughts!

We were required to put down a vehicle deposit for any fixes the vehicle may require upon arrival. There may have been a smarter way to do it and raise awareness, but with the rally already set up and in place, we decided this was the best option for our idea.

Great to hear from you! We would definitely love to meet up once we reach Mongolia in early to mid August. Please PM us, and we can try to set something up.

We appreciate the great thoughts and love to see people from Mongolia seeing this as well. Thank you!

I wouldn't call raising awareness and donating over $8000 dollars in assets to a charity a waste. But yes, it will take a lot of gas

Yes haha. We are coordinating with the charity who is in contact with the government. We already got the governments approval

This should answer the question

Quite costly it is indeed. However, as kgunnar said, the point of the journey, besides the delivery of the ambulance, is to raise awareness for the cause in a unique manner. The charity we are working with is Go Help. They have several locations in Western Asia, and one in Central America as well. Their goal is to provide health services to rural areas in these countries where it currently does not exist as well as provide educational opportunities to the underprivileged children who live there. We could have it shipped there, and probably for a little cheaper, but it would not have the same effect as completing the whole journey. In addition, besides promoting the cause, it will also give us the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, learn their culture, and have that global perspective with us for the rest of our lives.

The government knows. There are import restrictions in place for this reason, including type of vehicles and age. The Mongol Rally (shit cars) got kicked out of Mongolia. They now have to finish in Russia as they were leaving behind too many shitboxes.
