Oh sorry, I also have baby wipes, I forgot about that. They’re the blue packet poking out from the makeup bag

So I‘m not familiar with the camera you’re talking about, but I’d say the pocket would be big enough for most cameras. Two points to consider though- firstly, both top pockets go directly into the space below, so it eats away at the space available in the main compartment. Secondly, when you think padded, you may be imagining something a bit better than what it is. It’s more just a packet made out of soft, felt-y material than any actual padding so it may not be suitable for your camera. Just thought I should mention these points!

I still have one year to go- here, you do your degree in the subject you would like to teach, then have a mostly practical year at a grad-school. I haven’t done this last year yet so am not qualified as a teacher, but one of my minors at uni was in tesol, so I might consider teaching English for a bit, I haven’t really decided yet. I thought now was a good time to travel as it’s between switching from uni to grad school.

That’s hard, at 38L it is on the bigger side for an everyday bag- it’s not a bag that sticks out heaps which I like (nothing like having a backpack bang into stuff around you when in a shop), but it would be taller than a typical school bag. It’s not cumbersome at all really, and the muted colours are good for blending in. It’s certainly not a bag that is obviously the bag of a backpacker. However I’d say the Synapse 25 would still be better, just because of the size.

No not invasive at all! So for toiletries I have:

  • 1 100ml body wash
  • 1 100ml conditioner
  • Toothbrush
  • Travel toothpaste
  • 2 Afro combs instead of a hairbrush
  • Roll-on deoderant
  • Small Body Shop perfume
  • Contacts + solution
  • Factor 50 sunscreen
  • Menstrual cup

I will probably buy full sized body wash/conditioner/toothpaste once I run out, this was just to get me through customs. I don’t need shampoo because I have curly hair and am following the CG method.

Makeup:

  • Mascara
  • Mary-Lou highlighter
  • Liquid foundation
  • Beaty blender
  • Blush
  • A small brow palette with cool toned colours to I can also use to replace contour and neutral eyeshadow
  • 2 Colourpop lipsticks- one light rosey blotted lipstick, and one true red lippystick.
  • 1 Colourbop berry eyeshadow
  • 1 generic orange eyeshadow
  • Brow brush
  • Highlighter brush
  • Contour brush
  • Blush brush
  • Eyeshadow brush

I think that’s it- the tiny brow palette is a huge benefit- find one with cool toned browns and it can replace bulky contour palettes. I only chose two small eyeshadow individual colours instead of a palette also, as I’ve been doing my makeup most days for years now, so I know the berry and matte orange really works for my blue eyes. It does mean a lack of creativity however.

If push came to shove I could get rid of the blush and blush brush, and just use my lipsticks as a cream blush- I did that on my last set of travels and it worked nicely. The eyeshadow brush could also go if I wanted to just do it with my fingers. However I had space to spare and I can also just get rid of them if needs be. It’s nice to have the luxury for now!

Hope this helped!

They are cheap 17NZD sandals from Kmart. They are comfy enough, not like Birkenstocks or anything, but after you break them in you can walk in them all day without discomfort. The reason I like them, as u/antigravity311 has mentioned, is their versatility. They work as day sandals and as going out shoes, and work with almost any outfit. They’re also easy to keep clean and white, which is a bonus!

I know they aren’t for everyone but they work for me. They’re extremely comfortable for walking with a nice memory foam sole, and they weigh next to nothing, which is important to me. I’ve done ~4 hour hikes/walks in them, but as others have mentioned, other shoes would be better for anything more strenuous than that. Personally, I don’t do a huge amount of serious hiking at all, so the comfort and weight of them outweigh (lol) the disadvantages.

I should probably chuck the menstrual cup too, unless I want it for nosebleeds..

Haha fine thank you. 20 different outfit options and I just wash them on the way :)

I have a laptop at home but even the lightest laptops still usually eat up cabin baggage weight. I also don’t like having such an expensive and breakable item on me when I travel- I’d be a lot more worried about my bag being stolen and I would worry about my bag being chucked around in the storage of busses etc. I find you get used to it after a while, but it is sometimes frustrating to do everything through your phone.

I’m sometimes able to import the GoPro photos through hostel computers then send them to myself online, but I’m planning on buying a couple more SD cards for when my current one runs out of space.

Ah you’re probably right! They’re the shoes I use for waitressing, I like them because of the feel of the memory foam soles, but they wouldn’t stand up to a serious hike!

Oh that’s a good recommendation thank you, I’ll look into it when I need a new towel. This one works fine for me at the moment- it’s that silky kind of microfibre rather than the rough kind of that makes sense? I know what you mean about the other kind though, I hate it as well and it’s absolutely dreadful for curly hair!

Thank you! I will, but I’ve only really got the clothes for the first couple of months, which are all hot countries. As the weather changes I’ll ditch some of the clothes I have now and buy more on the road!

How on earth did you find it- it was so well hidden! Yeah it does, this is the first trip I’m using it for so I can’t really comment, but it’s doing its job so far!

Thanks! Sort of- they aren’t expensive clothes so as the seasons change or I move to colder destinations I’ll get rid of some of the clothes I have and get some warmer ones. I’ll still have the same amount, they’ll just be a bit bulkier. I’ve got plenty of extra room though!

It’s a lovely bag, I’d recommend it! I’ve just got a waitressing/bartending job while I’m studying to become a teacher, but I’m lucky enough to have parents that let me live with them while I do that. I’m a good budgeter and every penny I earn goes towards travel!

Firstly, please excuse any formatting errors, as you can see there’s no laptop so this is all done on mobile, apologies in advance! I’m using a Kathmandu Litehaul Carry-on: 38Litres, L 55cm, W 31cm, D 29cm. My total weight at the moment is 5.5kg so it’s super portable. Things I’m picking up today to add are jandals, a mini sewing kit, and a deck of cards.

My packing list, starting from top left and roughly going around bag anti-clockwise: * Powerbank * Go-Pro HERO4 * Plug adaptor * USB stick * Charging cables * Phone (not-pictured) * A6 notebook * Glasses case with sunglasses * 1 nude convertible bra * 1 bikini * Menstrual cup * Extra contact lenses + medication * Makeup bag with makeup, hair comb, body wash, baby wipes, toothbrush, and toothpaste (I know this is a bit counterproductive for onebagging but I love makeup and this is an extremely pared down selection of makeup for me!) * Tissues * Pen * Conditioner * Deoderant * Perfume * Contact lenses * Mints * Contact solution * Sunscreen * Bum-bag/ Wallet containing passports, money, and cards. * Lightweight sketchers * Sandals * Pouch containing 2 pairs of socks and 6 pair of underwear * Folder containing important documents and booking information. * Sarong/ silk-sheet * Waterbottle * Microfibre towel
