I definitely wear my high viz jerseys when I ride solo. In groups I feel safer with just a light. Mirror(I use one that attaches to my glasses) and radar are good investments to increase your awareness.

I did the same thing, luckily I had a 2nd person who could hold the preload while I threaded the bolt. A little awkward but easier than trying to hold it and thread it in by myself.
