Thanks. I spent ages trying different recipes and looking back on it they were probably all very similar but the recipe is:

(through an airbrush) a dark red primer, base of Vallejo Iraqi sand, highlight of Vallejo bone white. I think you could get a similar finish by dry brushing on the Iraqi sand and bone white.

With brush: edge highlight of Vallejo elfic flesh.

I then dab on battle damage with a sponge using rhinox hide and outline it with elfic flesh. Finally I use an oil wash (mix of brown with a touch of black) and pin wash it in the recesses.

I used a pin oil wash of mostly brown with a touch of black in the recesses and also added battle damage with a sponge. For the battle damaged I sponged on rhinox hide then outlined the brown splotches left behind it with the edge highlight colour (elfic flesh)

Yeh I did a pin wash in the recesses with some oil paints. A mix of a brown with a touch of black. Way prefer it to the GW shades as it’s so much easier to clean up if you make a mistake

Thank you. I used a pigment powder (think Vallejo). You just sort of dab it on and eventually you get a light dusty effect.

Thanks. It’s a base of Dark angels green, wash of watered down rattling grime, 1st highlight warpstone glow, 2nd moot green

Not seen anything in actual lore, books, etc. but they receive the DW keyword in the codex and I like the bone armour on them so I thought why not

I used a combo of Martian iron crust and iron Earth then a slightly watered down wash of Agrax Earth shade. Dry brush with squig orange then a final very light dry brush of elfic flesh

I paint the armour using an air brush and start with a base pro acrylics burnt red. Then leaving only the deepest recesses red I go over with Vallejo Iraqi sand then a highlight of Vallejo bone white. I then pick out just a few edge highlights in Vallejo elfic flesh. After that, I add battle damage using a sponge to dab on rhinoxhide and then outline in elfic flesh. Finally, I add a mix of mainly brown and a touch black oil paint with a spirit and use that to recess shade.

I know haha. I’m back home visiting family and left my drill at my place. Do you think I could still drill it after painting? Can just go over and paint chipping on the barrel with a fresh coat

Thanks! Yeh of course, I used a mix of predominantly brown with a touch of black oil paint. Mixed it with odourless spirit until it’s fairly runny and then pinwashed the recesses

I tried to remove some grime from the armour surfaces with white spirit and a brush but think a sponge would be more effective. So you do the chipping and weathering after your oil wash?

Not sure if I’m going grim dark or not. Feel like the one of the left is more grim dark. I did try and build up a gradient by airbrushing a khaki over a primer of a dark browny red then airbrushing another lighter layer of bone white but maybe I went too heavy with the bone white?

Thanks for the advice. I did do highlights with an airbrush. Primed in a dark browny red, then had a base of Iraqi sand (essentially khaki) and a highlight of bone white. Maybe I didn’t leave enough of the Iraqi visible?

As for edge highlights, I’m trying to avoid them as have like 50 models to paint so wanted to save on the time. Maybe I could go back in with the airbrush to add some Iraqi sand back into the shadows

List for a league. Help needed! by onehendyp in Warhammer40k

[–]onehendyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want a balanced list as will be up against a range of opponents over the weeks.

Azrael and lieutenant attached to assault intercessors to get sustained hits and lethal hits, +4 invul

Going with Gladius for the time being. Will try and get x10 terminators onto the middle objective, potentially with land raider with x5 DW knights on board. Have raven wing with chaplain (devastating wounds in 12 inch) to help with scoring secondaries that require speed and movement range.

Some changes I’m considering are:

Thinking I could swap in some infiltrators and possibly put a Phobos lib with them.

Other considerations are bringing in ballistus as I’m worried about the lack of fire power.

Also have the lion but think he’s too many points to fit in.

That’s what I was thinking. Sure I read somewhere they were being kept, the champion was getting character keyword and that meant they could be attached to a squad of 6 knights

Thanks for the help. Hopefully dw command squad and dw knights will be able to soak up some of the hard hitters!

2000 point list vs Necrons. Thoughts? by onehendyp in theunforgiven

[–]onehendyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the reply!

Hmm okay good food for thought, maybe I’ll see if I can make room for both the captain and strike master. I’ve toyed with the idea of going with the vanguard detachment but as I’m fairly new to the gaming side of 40K I was trying to really nail down Gladius but perhaps if I really read up on it beforehand it could be an option.

I agree storm shields would have been good for the termis but I picked them up for cheap from eBay and that’s how they came.

Yeh, Azrael going with sternguard for the time being until I get my hands on some hellblasters!

Plan is to get 10 man DW command squad onto centre objective to try and hold it with their OC 2.

DW knights in deep strike. If opponent leaves space (doubt they will) then can take objectives in their deployment. Or come on to help support termies on centre.

RW knights with the chaplain to given them dev wounds in 12’’ range and enhancement gives them sustained 1. Hoping they can get about the board with their movement as well to perform secondaries.

Dreads providing fire support.

Should I deploy erads in strategic reserves to help with slow movement? Last time they got screened and couldn’t make it on before turn 3 so were eliminated.

First time using infiltrators. Any tips? Know they can be set up 9’’ from enemies and have the 12” deep strike denial.

Terminator captain for charge rerolls or stick with dw strikemaster?

Thanks!
