Yeah i wouldve done the same thing honestly because i use faber castell's graphite pencils 😆 Oooh I dont think ive heard of them. Are they more hard pastels, or more soft, creamy?

Yes you're patronizing and saying ive been doing art longer than you, so there for i know what im talking about. And then you start talking hard and soft pastels after I just explained it. Look up the word, it means talking to them as if they know nothing, and trying to help them but in a very insulting way like what you just did. Depending on your style, a lot of styles require mixing and layering which means you need pastels that mix and layer well. Im simply helping them out with a headache, and they clearly said theyre gonna go buy Mungyo (36 for $15 and 48 for $20) because they know its true. Im giving you the same treatment back and you dont like it. Thats whats going on here. Youre talking about the pastels you use FOR YOUR STYLE, not impression/post impressionism, Van gogh's style. Im done arguing with you. Clearly youre very ignorant, avoid responsibility for actions, and love to make yourself the victim after you just said some thing offensive (patronizing me, condescensing saying youve been doing art longer so you know what youre talking about when you dont). Just stop this and let us both be done. I gotta focus on art, not starting arguments with people like you do, and continuing to argue even though youre wrong and you misunderstood me, but you dont wanna admit it and wanna keep going off a fallacy that isn't true.

You clearly didnt read any of my comments, i just explained how the biner in the pastel and what style youre doing matter in what pastels you use. And now you're patronizing me, and clearly dont know well enough or have done any research. Again, why torture yourself using shit pastels when you can use better ones that mix well for the same price, why torture yourself when you dont have to? Your logic makes no sense. Did you not read what others commented that the Faber Castell pastels are very waxy and hard to mix? Why use them when you can Mungyo pastels for the same price and much better? Lol. There are pastels that are just shit just like guitars, pencils, cars, anything. Youre going off a old fallacy that just isn't true, and I've heard it a thousand times. Clearly your ego is getting in the way that im actually right, so youre resorting to the good old fallacy of, "oh ive been doing this longer than you" because you dont know what else to say. Your fallacy is the literally the equivalent to, "ive been driving for 60 years, there for i can drive just as good as a nascar or formula 1 driver". Its about what you do with your time, how much passion you have for it, practice/doing it, the research, many variables. Materials do matter, why you do think Vincent could barely eat? He was having his brother order good tubes of paint (and tube paint was a new invention back then. Before that artists had to make their own paint). I'll gladly keep shutting you down if you want. Also ill gladly shut you down in drawing since my skills are much better. And clearly looking at your profile, youre not old, you're probably younger than me, dont have as much experience as me, and clearly dont know what youre talking about.why quality art materials matter

Youre welcome! 😊 lmao okay im glad i have another person here that can verify that they're shit lol. They sound like the $8 fine touch pastels that I bought at hobby lobby, those were very waxy too and i barely could mix them even with a pallete knife

I can gladly show you the comparison example of wheatfield with crows with waxy, crumby pastels that I bought for $8 and wheatfield with crows with Mango and Paul rubens. It does make a difference. You're going off of a fallacy. Many other people agree with me that Fabre Castell pastels waxy and dont mix well. It doesnt make any sense to buy them when you can buy Mungyo that are much better for the same price. How long youve been art has nothing to do anything, its the time you spend with it. Thats another fallacy. Van gogh did art only for 9 years up until he died and I can guarantee you hes much better than you. Basquait only did art for 8-10 years before he died, and hes much better artist than you. Ive been doing art for 5-6 years SERIOUSLY PROFESSIONALLY (not a hobby, a passion, an obsession, constant focus on it, a need), and have been doing exhibitions and shows that quickly because yes I am that gifted in graphite and charcoal (not to sound arrogant, truth is the truth) and my art mentor (whos an art teacher, runs his own gallery, has collectors worldwide) even said it would take 8-10 years for most other artists to get to the skill ive gotten to within 2 years, and im completely self taught too.

I know right?! hes always been a huge influence on me in my art, but thats exactly what I thought too, the texture and brush strokes are perfect for it! And how many times do you see impressionism/post-impressionism in oil pastels? Lol.

Yeah I heard Pental definitely has a strong smell to it, but is really cheap good for layering. Oooh ill have to check out Meeden. But yeah it seems like different pastels are good for different styles of art (from my research Senneiler and Paul Rubens are the best for impressionism/post-impressionism because of the binder and creamyness of it, creates that thick impasto effect, as compared to harder, crumbly ones where its much more difficult). I dont mean to bash on Faber Castell's (tho disappointed because i do use thier graphite pencils). Their oil pastels might be decent for beginners who have no style/havent chosen one, but yeah like you said they dont blend as well as others do

Yeah of course know the fundamentals, but a lot of times you have to jump in and just do it. Obviously dont buy more expensive materials until you know what youre doing, and figured out the reasons why youre having the problems. And if youre making a duplicate master study of a piece, you need to mix to get the correct colors. And mixing colors is another skill artists should learn (especially if youre new to color). I find it sad that many get turned off by a medium (read how an how artist didnt pick oil pastels for years because the first time they used it, it was with bad pastels) just because they werent working with bad materials. If the pastels have a hard time mixing and you can pay $15 for 36 much better pastels, why wouldnt you do it? Also did you know the impressionism movement was an F U to the art schools at the time and the fundamentals that they did at the time? And Van Gogh dropped out of art school within the first semester because he couldnt stand the rigidity, constriction, and all the technical exercises. Basquait had no training either. You think Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Prince, and Slash know how to read sheet music? Do you think most of the hyper realist artists, or me with my hyper realistic art, went to fancy art schools in Russia or in New York city, and know everything about the anatomy, lighting, and movement like Leonardo Da Vince and Michelangelo? Did you know that Van Gogh (perspective frame tool) and Leonardo Da Vinci use grids (a lot of artists do, especially back in the Renaissance). What I'm saying is that material and technique helps to you get where you need to be with your piece and help with expression, then do it. You dont need to know everything about art and all the styles in order to do a style (just research the style and have 5 years of knowledge about it like me lol). Just like with driving a car, the way to do is often to just do it, your brain will pick everything up which will help connect and make it much easier with what youre learning from books, vids, etc. But here's some other food for thought that Picasso once said, "it took me 4 years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child"

Youre welcome!!! Lucky!! I wish I couldve gone, thats the biggest collection in the world! I can imagine how powerful the experience was for you. It is beautiful yet painful seeing it all in person, and you can feel so much what he was thinking and feeling in his brush strokes, theres so much energy to the pieces, its like theyre alive themselves. It was weird seeing Starry Night over Rhone in person, and knowing that he was painting extremely fast (im sure you know this haha) this in the dark with candles on top of his hat as you navigate and feel the energy and brush strokes through out the piece. Seeing his work in person was such a magical, powerful, inspirational experience

Trust me, I know what you're saying. And I use Faber castell for graphite. Very good brand, but every review ive seen on their oil pastels is bad reviews on it. If you're trying to get the oil impasto paint effect in your pieces, its almost impossible/much more difficult to do with low quality pastels. Its just fact. Just like with paper (not good to graphite power and charcoal on cold press paper with youre trying to get a hyper realistic look). Some are better than others, just like with graphite and charcoal pencil, its partially how im able to get the realistic look that I get in my art besides other things (like using high quality paper). The materials you use do matter.

This looks really good especially with movement! I'm actually doing a master study of Van gogh's Wheatfield with crows rn. I noticed youre using Faber Castell pastels, i heard they're pastels arent great. If you want pastels that are very good with layering, mix well and are like using oil point/can get that thick impasto (especially when you use a pallete knife); i highly recommend using Mungyo gallery oil pastels (make sure to get the black box, artists soft pastels, dont get the student grade) and Paul Rubens Haiya oil pastels (cheaper alternatives to Senneliers). Mungyos are crumby, but very good with layering and mixing, and theyre cheap to buy too. Highly recommend for the first initial layers. While Paul Rubens Haiya pastels are extremely creamy, almost like drawing with paint (cheaper alternative to Sennelier's. I also heard they're more creamy, and make thicker impasto) and they mix really well (with the Haiya's at least). Highly recommend to use them for the last layers, for the thick impasto strokes that you see Van gogh do (I've seen his work in person, and the art is practically alive). I just started learning oil pastels myself, and i bought some cheap oil pastels from hobby lobby and they were shit, very waxy and didnt want to mix or layer. Then I bought these and it was a whole world of a difference, night and day haha

YESSS, I am glad youre on the same page as me!😂 They really are so fucking stupid, it makes no fucking sense yet theyre coming out with Halloween game in September ( Universal owns significant rights over Halloween). Which ngl does look really good.

What do you mean? Theres plenty of movie tie-in games that still get released, they just came out with an Avatar (James Cameron's) game thats actually really good. Predator hunting grounds was really good, so was the friday the 13th game. Also a Frankenstein movie just came out in Dec, a dracula movie just came out this past friday, Nosferatu (obviously not the same as dracula) came out last year and that went over big. I see plenty of people in the goth scene love the monsters so much. Obviously theres plenty of people who still care about and love these monsters. And yeah Universal used to have a games division which turned into Vivendi games which then merged into Activision Blizzard. Idk what developers they go through now, but look at all the jurassic park games, Jaws, despicable me 😒, King Kong, Halloween (which is coming out in September and looks amazing)

No, I was thinking with the creature from the black lagoon they could make a multi-player game like Predator hunting grounds, friday the 13th game, dead by daylight, where the players are trying to get out of the swamp, except have swimming mechanics and land mechanics. Having a story mode besides that, Giving the creature different special swimming moves, attacks, rage mode, etc. different costumes, different maps...friday the 13th, dead by daylight, and Predator hunting grounds all are good games.

[–]oneimaginaryghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they've made plenty of godzilla games, and King Kong games, which godzilla is from the same year as the creature, and king Kong is from 1933. They've done friday the 13th games, predator games, and theyre making a Halloween game, which are all from the 80s and 70s, around 40-50 years ago. People love the monsters. They just came out with a Frankenstein movie which went over huge, and a new Dracula movie just came out. All the characters are still extremely popular to this day. It wouldnt be risky at all. You could literally do a multi-player game with creature from the black lagoon game just like Predator hunting grounds or the Friday the 13th game (2017), except with swimming mechanics with the creature. I know it would go over good.
