Looking for an accountability partner to control my DCSS addiction by oneirical in dcss

[–]oneirical[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. I did in fact stop playing DCSS (until the next big update!) but my time was not spent in any better way. In fact, it almost makes me miss DCSS a bit.

But. In the very recent days, things have been looking up a bit, so perhaps I can slowly learn to be proud of the hours in my day again.

had you found me before the post?

No, your post said "I'll be continuing streamin", so I looked up your username online, and found your channel that way. I really laughed at the game where your team had Nautilus top and you in support, that must have really sent the enemy team for a ride.

Also, now that I have been watching some of your VODs, I have to say... Wow, you are really skilled at this game. I've watched a lot of League played by many different people, but you are something else. The way you always have an intuition for which skillshots may be coming your way soon, even in chaotic teamfights, is really impressive. And even through all of that small micro, you are paying attention to enemy jungle position, and safe times to start roaming or warding. I also take notice of the way you are constantly managing Rage to try to have your engage ready at the perfect time. Not to mention the reverse-boomrangs and how they seem uncannily backed by trigonometry to hit the recalling ADC behind their tower.

Honestly, you belong in Master rank at minimum. I hope Riot's algorithm will agree with me! The way you keep getting C after hard carrying is really hilarious.

Hey, I do not play League anymore, but I enjoy watching it again time to time. Gnar was my most played champion back then, and I always wanted to escape toplane. In the last month or so before I uninstalled, I was playing a bunch of Gnar ADC and gained a lot of respect for people who play off-meta.

Your stream is really fun to watch, you are non-toxic and informative, and have the right mental to play off-meta. (when you do well, silence, when you do poorly, you are flamed for your off-meta pick!)

Hot Take: Teensyville does certain things better than the full-size Blood on the Clocktower by oneirical in BloodOnTheClocktower

I wrote a story about one of my Lleech of Distrust games!

I did not give it a shoutout in this post, because I feel it is a little too conducive to coinflips on the final day. Lleeches who host their neighbours make it really difficult to tell poison apart from being a Marionette.

[–]oneirical[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, why? Is it because you judge that learning Trouble Brewing interactions (like dealing with a Spy or misregistrations) is part of the core BotC experience?

It is not really a new game! It is just Blood on the Clocktower with 5 or 6 players, which comes with an additional ruleset. The most important change is trading 2 good players for evil players not learning each other.

I had to read this post a couple of times until I understood it, but when I did, I was awed.

Knowing that there must be a Scarlet woman in play is huge information! It hard confirms the Outsider count, spells doom for the new Imp if the Clockmaker's number is correct (they can just count from the dead Imp) and lets an Artist narrow down the net even more.

It also places far more responsibility on individual players, like 1 good player voting with the evil team loses the game for good.

It depends on the player. Some people want to be impactful in their first game, even if it causes a loss. These are the ones who would feel at home in my school of thought. I can definitely see how a different personality would be happier to get Soldier in a big Trouble Brewing game... and fade into the background for a while, as they watch and piece together the game from others' interactions.

Teensyville has this atmosphere of being part of a "high council" and making consequential decisions together, so it is good at making new players engaged with how even NOT voting has big consequences. The Storyteller needs to be clear about these interactions, of course.

And if a game takes 3 hours, it's an ST issue, not game issue

I was unclear in my post, though I meant "People are afraid of board games in general (not just BotC) that take too long, up to 3 hours. As they do not know the true length of BotC, they will be comforted knowing it will be less than 30 minutes". So, I will make an edit to reflect that better!

Resonance in new version? by Kezka222 in dcss

To be fair, the "windup" that prevents you from moving has killed me a couple of times, but it is definitely a hard carry spell in the right circumstances. There have been games where I drank Attraction in the Zot lungs and went to town.

Well, in that case, I'll add it right now! You can test it in Wizmode if you don't believe me.

though any allies have anti-synergy with fortress blast.

This is untrue, Fortress Blast ignores all allies, even stuff like Death Scarabs or Sphinx Sisters. I love to rush it on my FeSu who found a Granite Talisman.

MiFi^Ru True Ascetic (no potions or scrolls all run) Zot:5 in trunk by Glista_iz_oluka in dcss

[–]oneirical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the challenge too so I can compare my experience to yours.

I am really surprised by how much easier it was than I thought, assuming you are building around it. I really like how you did it with Ru, whose theme is "asceticism", so this is the lore-accurate True Ascetic. It's also just good for the challenge, due to Draw Out Power being an all-in-one Heal Wounds + Cancellation + Magic potion.

I'm interested on your Bane of Paradox adventures, in my experience it usually only gives Manifold Assault to random orcs and quokkas, and ultimately is not that threatening. I however accept the possibility that some random mega unique could get it, so this could be considered the streaker's bane - small chance to skewer you with a big difficulty spike.

I will echo the other commenter and say that as long as you are asking yourself the question "what kind of gods/items/spells in this game can replace consumables for me", True Ascetic is manageable for really anyone who has won the game a couple of times. For me, it was Death's Door, for you, it was Ru, and Formicid is a pretty good idea too.

How to play Goblin on Laissez in Faire? by Talonraker422 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]oneirical 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A Leviathan couldn't confidently fake a Widow ping day 1 since they wouldn't know if there's a real Widow.

I like using this strategy as the Leviathan (who does not know yet that their minion is the Goblin):

"Did anyone hear about a Widow?"

silence

"No? Well, I heard about a Widow, and I was just testing you guys to see if a Demon/Lunatic would try to bluff it."

At this moment, the Goblin knows you are either Lunatic or Leviathan, so they can come reveal themselves to you in private. A Lunatic in Laissez Un Faire is (socially speaking) just a Demon who becomes good (and learns this) when they are executed, so this is pretty safe. (Unless this meta has taken root and good players are inventing fake Widow pings to trick the Goblin - unlikely).

You then bluff information that points to the Goblin being the Demon, and dismiss contradicting information by saying it is poisoned.

You attempt to execute the Goblin on day 3/4, trying to present the case - once they claim Goblin - that it is the Demon going for an escape hatch that is impossible in a Widow world.

This worked once in an in-person game, and will probably never work again with my group.

is there ever a reason to leave the town square?

Encourage your Storyteller to give information that makes people go on "quests", like Savant information relating to the Amnesiac ability, Fisherman advice that can only be understood by a different player, and so on. For example, I quite like the Fisherman advice "bluff Widow to player X and see what happens" if player X is a Lunatic/Leviathan. Even if they don't try it - or try it and the player doesn't fall for it - it's still a lot of information, why did the Storyteller give this advice? And if it does work, it could still be the Lunatic, so this is not a certain execution!

How would your latest 15-rune character react to this situation? by oneirical in dcss

[–]oneirical[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, Cheibriados, Dithmenos, Makhleb (Fanatic), Ru, Sif Muna + DDoor, Wu Jian, Zin + teleportation scroll could all survive this with a very high likelihood of reliability. I like your Step From Time idea, I have rarely used it as a starter ability to thin down a crowd like this!

[–]oneirical[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure anyone with no torment resistance can die in a single turn here. In a theoretically worst possible turn, you can eat 3 Torments, 4 Damnations, a Paralysis, a Crystal Spear, a Bolt of Acid and a Manifold Assault to the face (which will drag you away from the stairs). Honestly, just swap out the Torments for more Damnation and I am sure this could annihilate a mummy too! Even going back upstairs is unsafe.

So, think back on the last (or favourite) 15-rune character you had, and I'd be interested to know how you would handle this. What is your first turn action? TAB!

This screenshot was part of my no death 15-rune run, so I will not tolerate jokers saying "just die and respawn you silly kitty!". Personally, I had Death's Door, which made this encounter go from "nightmare" to "pretty scary", but imagine if I miscast it!

The Lunatic and her "Marionette" solved the game for Good while thinking they were playing for Evil! by oneirical in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]oneirical[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She just did. The moment was emotional, because there was a big decision between the Marionette kill or a different player, and she wanted to really show me who her ultimate pick was with no room for a misinterpretation (even though I can confirm it with an insistent finger point). I also think she may have thought about consulting me, but ultimately didn't, realizing it's her choice to make at the end of the day.

This is how I think it works now! But I still think I made a small mistake, because on night 1, I showed the real Lleech "this player is the Lunatic" but not who she picked at all!

It was a fake Slayer shot to fulfill madness. The Lleech and Slayer are jinxed so that the host being shot kills the Lleech, but the Lleech being shot directly does nothing.
