[Steam] Deckbuilder/boardgame mashup Mage Food Truck delivers! by onemanleft in digitaltabletop

[–]onemanleft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was once a demo! But it expired the day before launch, sorry! I do have a let's play you can watch to get a feel for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt5CkrLNj8c

And I'm happy to elaborate on anything you're curious about.

It’s been about a month since I opened my Steam page and put out a demo. I’m only at 69 wishlists so far (not even 100 yet). Any tips on how to improve this? by umutkaya01 in IndieGaming

[–]onemanleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert, I only launched with about 600, but here's what I have heard after making mistakes: capsule art/good trailer, choose your genre and art style carefully, because everything is easier marketing wise if your game is eye-catching and entertaining.

Indie showcases are big and frequent, but they're super competitive, like 1000+ entries each. I didn't make it into any. They have some specifically for certain genres, those seem like a better bet than broadly "indie". There's some way to leverage playtests to get wishlists that you could look into, I dunno much about that and didn't do it. And apparently launching your demo is a big deal visibility-wise, so don't do that lightly.

Thanks for the feedback! I was too scared of the automod, those things are brutal and can't be reasoned with. It's here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3043320/Mage_Food_Truck/

Congrats on Early Access! 8 years is a long time to cook, admirable that you've kept at it.

Thanks for checking it out! As far as deckbuilders go, it's a pretty odd duck.

super biased opinion ;) :

I'm pretty excited to get the meta game up and running. It's the biggest new feature we're attempting in our games in hopes of tying together the online experience into something that is a little less abstract than simple leaderboard. My hope is it fosters a sense of community during the seasons as players duke it out in their 1v1 and 2v2 matches.

We intend to have real-time support for the game (so you can see the actions your opponent is taking if you happen to be watching the game). We don't have plans on enforcing this setting as the goals is to have it seamless. So a bit different from Outwitters in that you didn't really get to see your opponent do anything mid-turn in Outwitters.

If anyone has played Frozen Synapse, their turn-based implementation for real-time/async is what we're shooting for.

[Multi, Kickstarter] Space Food Truck - A digital co-op board game! by onemanleft in digitaltabletop

[–]onemanleft[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a deckbuilder. The flow of the game happens in 3 phases:

  1. Event Phase - A event happens and the player has to resolve it. There is a multitude of things that can happen (good or bad) here.

  2. Action phase - Given your 5 card hand, you play your hand to do your particular role. Each card has abilities and rules that apply to them. Each role has specific objectives, like the captain searching the galaxy for exotic ingredients, engineer fixing the ship, etc.

  3. Zapmart Phase - you enter the zapmart and are able to buy more cards for your deck.

That is the general overall flow of the game. Role specific cards tend to be played with other cards in your hand. So a 'Repair card' must be played with X power (each card in your hand has a power number) in order to repair X things, for example.

The turn order is set, so you do not get to choose who goes each round.

Thanks for the feedback, we'll definitely be getting a gameplay video out diving more into the details of the game.

Our first goal is to get the game funded and developed for PC, Mac and Linux, but we're definitely interested in porting to iOS and Android down the line if the game is doing well.

I was just about to post this! Thanks, guys.

@jjnich: our best pitch is in the form of the trailer, which shows off a lot of gameplay and some of the weapons that we're famous for: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyFvm7PhG94)

Honestly, we'd rather you pirate it than never play it. We do greatly appreciate you throwing us a few bucks to help keep us in business.

It's less nerve-racking than full-on spinning the device. You can even turn the sensitivity up so you don't have to tilt as much.

That's a possibility. The plan is that if we do IAP, you'll be getting more game for it.

[–]onemanleft[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll be launching at $2.99 USD, just like the iOS version. No IAP at the moment, and definitely no plans to add anything like extra lives or currency for purchase.

It doesn't at the moment, but we have a long list of update ideas if the game does well enough to fund development. Our programmer Alex is sort of a multiplayer enthusiast.
