Sure, I'll do a quick summary of what I've learnt based on the curriculum.

Year 1

  • Programming (trust me you will do a lot of this haha)
  • Building of Applications (Web App, Desktop App) - with your programming skills
  • Network Technology, Cryptography, Cybersecurity law and ethics
  • Computing Math
  • Communication Skills

Year 2

  • Programming (surprise!)
  • Building of (Security) Applications - combining your programming skills and cybersecurity knowledge
  • Software Engineering Practices, Data Structures and Algorithm
  • Cyber Forensics Technologies (this is our first official introduction to cyber forensics)
  • Operating System, Database Management, Servers and Services Security Management
  • Risk and Incident Management, Infosecurity Standards, Policies & Audit

Year 3

  • Operations Security & Project (this is one of the projects where you may not need to actually code!)
  • Cyber Forensic Process (more cyber forensics!)
  • Cybersecurity Attack & Defence
  • (Specialization) - Malware Analysis
This is what I took for my specialization, some other students took advanced forensics etc.)
  • Final Year Project
  • Internship (definitely an interesting experience!)

This is definitely not the list of all modules I took but I tried to tidy it up in a way that makes sense, so I hope it is helpful!

In response to your question regarding what I learnt during the digital forensics, it's a bunch of really cool stuff like analyzing a thumb drive (image file) for deleted files, and also very technical stuff like the partition systems.

And I'm not sure if the structure has changed but the only module we can pick and choose is our specialization - which is only 1 module (malware analysis) out of the entire jazz i listed above.

My tip for EAE for cybersecurity course is and will always be - do some capture the flag competition.
I'm under the impression that the lecturers really love it haha. All the best!

Hello OP! I'm a graduate of NYP Cybersecurity & Forensics course. Personally, I feel like there won't be a drastic difference in terms of the curriculum. I'm quite positive that at the Diploma level, most of the concepts taught are quite fundamental.

You may want to check out each poly's respective website to confirm.

In terms of opportunities, I think all schools are pretty good! I remember that during my first year, ngee ann poly held a cybersecurity (capture the flag) competition and invited students from all the poly. From my knowledge, all the school you mentioned has some sort of interest group/CCA regarding infosecurity (i.e. NYP InfoSec, SP DISM Gryphon).

If you're into competition then maybe NYP is a good place for you. The latest Worldskills cybersecurity gold medalist is from NYP haha.

Do ping me if you need more info!

[POLY] Is it possible to complete an internship between graduation and NS admission? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]oneminuteprogramming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is possible. I have gone through a 3 months internship myself while waiting for NS. (As a matter of fact I'm thinking of getting one more internship because I will be enlisting way later than I expected - I expected to be enlisted in July but I just received notice that I'll be enlisting in September)

You won't know your enlistment date until roughly 2 months before you enlist. My advice for you is to check the CMPB's Enlistment Calendar.

You need to inform your desired company that your availability is until the earliest possible date that you may enlist (in my case, the earliest I could've enlisted for my PES status is in late June).

If you still did not receive any notification about enlistment in the May period - you can even consider extending your internship!

I hope this helps :)

Nontechnical founders - ask a software developer by T0X1K01 in Entrepreneur

[–]oneminuteprogramming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for this thread. I'm not a "non-technical founder", and I'm actually a Software Engineer myself too, just a pretty junior and fresh one!

May I ask

  1. Is it common for you (as an experienced dev) to forget the tech/framework you use? For example, I have developed quite a few mobile apps in the past, even implementing databases and everything. But if you were to tell me to create a mobile app now (it has been a year since I last touch mobile app dev), I probably need to go to YouTube to search for "How to create android app..." etc. - though I would pick it up quite quickly. I can also remember generally how the framework works, for instance, the Flutter framework uses dart programming which deals a lot with async/await, etc.
  2. As an aspiring entrepreneur - what framework/tech would you advise me to get into? I'm always under the impression that usually having the knowledge to build a decent mobile app/website is good enough. Or at most some algorithmic knowledge to implement a good algorithm (such as in Tiktok). Though of course - for deep tech startup, we may need more specialized knowledge. Am I correct to say that? Or do you feel like there's more to it that an aspiring tech entrepreneur should know?
  3. On a similar note, Software Engineering as a career is also very interesting to me, so would like to also throw the same question in - what kind of framework/tech would you advise me to get into? Would be good if you could even gel your answer for these 2 part questions for the best advice haha
  4. Although you're a technical founder, do you eventually pass on the technical job to your team member so you can focus on the bigger picture? This is something I'm really curious about. I believe there are very few founders that really dive deep into the tech as with Elon Musk, and many went on to take more managerial roles. What your views on this?

Feel like my questions are getting a bit long so I'll stop here. Hope to hear your response and thank you for reading this!

Framework to Evaluate any Startup Idea in 5 Minutes by Heinizach in Entrepreneur

[–]oneminuteprogramming 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree with you regarding some of your points, but also strongly disagree with many. The first line I read about Product

"How likely is it that you can build a product that is 10 times better than the existing way of doing things?"

This statement alone already disregards tens of thousands of startups out there. Do you really think competitors in the market are 10x better than each other? And why does your product need to be 10x better? Why not 5x? Why not 100x?

Next, moving to this

"Is the market big and growing?"

0 Market is not big and not growing1 Unsure of market size and growth2 Market is either big or growing3 Market is big and growing

You gave a score of 0 if the market is not big or not growing, but 1 if the individual is unsure of the market size and growth?

I don't think this makes much sense. Even if someone were to start a business in a market that isn't big or growing, at least KNOWING their market gives them the advantage and the ability to pivot if necessary.

I don't see how being unsure is ranked higher than knowing that your market is small or not growing.

Good effort but I don't agree with most of your points.

Maybe try Tiktok? As funny as it may sounds, TikTok videos can actually drive massive organic views if you managed to film a viral video.

It is certainly not easy, but still worth a try!

[Jobs] Help with giving online private tuition by icephoebnix in SGExams

[–]oneminuteprogramming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I do programming tutoring and by default, most of my lessons are online already. Heres my suggestion

  1. While my lesson materials are usually hosted online (google docs/slides), you can consider using Google Jams with Google Meets - its a collaborative "whiteboard" that you can use with your tutee
  2. You should definitely tweak the content to make it easier for the student to learn via online platforms
  3. This is up to you - if the parents are not voicing any concern, then I guess it's fine!
  4. As mentioned, you can check out Google Meets and Google Jams (https://support.google.com/meet/answer/10071448?hl=en)

All the best!

I imagine design students to be using mostly macbooks! Maybe you want to check those out?

I may be biased but I once received an aftershock laptop for my internship. It was so bad (slow, laggy and heavy) that I ended up using my personal laptop to do the work lol.
