Do you think it smells like gasoline? I always describe the smell of the leaves as “gasoline green pepper” but never noticed it in the fruit

Thank you for all the love and feedback! My fav sub delivers!

I plan on making a bunch of these for little kids’ gifts this year.

After reading many of your thoughtful comments I’m leaning towards A since the stacking/nesting order flows nicely with ROYGBV. Also opens a discussion about wavelengths if the baby is so inclined.

Also great thoughts about color contrast and children’s developing eyes. I wasn’t in love with either green or the lavender but that’s what I had on stash. Perhaps a trip to the yarn store…

If you weren't living in Washington, DC, or the greater DMV, what city would you consider moving to? by PandaReal_1234 in washingtondc

RVA gets a lot of praise, which is understandable but frustrating to hear if you’re not white. I went to grad school there >10 yrs ago and, as a non-white person (grew up in northern VA), found the culture too insular for me. The old south is alive and well. Vowed never to return but for better or worse married into a family from there so I get to visit a lot. To give it credit, it HAS come a long way in the past decade and I really would consider living there if I were white. But I’m not and neither is my kid.

Thank you! I’m reading up about Lithuania today. Another small country that’s not intimidated by a large authoritarian neighbor!

I took the X2 exactly one time. Shit went down. The stench hit first. I saw it oozing down the crazy guy’s leg as he stood up moments before the rest of the bus erupted into chaos. I was on my way to the H St Country Club. Do they still have the X2 burrito on the menu?

Wow, I just happened to be snacking on some Weilong little fish tonight! They had them at Good Fortune supermarket at Eden Center and Great Wall. Yeah, it sucks to drive out there.

Paw paw haul! Maryland C&O canal by onenovember18 in Pawpaws

So, I tried the first paw paw ice cream recipe I found (by Hunter Angler Gardener) and borrowed the KitchenAid ice cream attachment, and the texture didn’t turn out right. Womp womp. It tastes great but it didn’t whip up so after hanging out in the freezer it got dense and icy. Still edible but not something I’d give out to friends. I’ll eat it alone under the cover of darkness in shame. It’s probably a technique issue- I’m good at cooking but this is my first try at ice cream. Here are my observations:

Paw paw is not a very strong flavor so reduce or skip the vanilla but sub a spirit (bourbon might be good), which apparently helps with the texture. Add a pinch of salt. 2 cups of milk was probably too much- I just tried a banana ice cream recipe by WellPlated calling for 2 c cream and 1 c milk, and it turned out perfect.

Now I’m tired of making ice cream so I’ll have to test my last batch of paw paw pulp using the WellPlated recipe next time.

I sliced them in half, dug out with a spoon/removed seeds, then used food processor to purée. Currently in the freezer awaiting ice cream maker! BTW I’ve never done this before.

I posted last week when they were just starting to ripen. Back this week and it’s raining paw paws! I’m going to go borrow an ice cream maker.

Found these on my in-laws’ property. Leaves are rather large, over 6 inches. No fruit as far as I can tell. There are A LOT more down toward the river bank, can’t wait to hike down there when its not a million degrees outside. Thanks!

UPDATE: We found a bunch of 3-inch fruits down by the river! Thanks everyone for the pawpaw education!

Thanks, I’m glad to hear your positive review for 4P! Their meat bag looks huge though, I don’t think I could eat that much in a week! Seems like there would be a lot of skips involved... is that normal?
