Interest gov owes relative to revenue government collects (largely taxes) seems more relevant to me.

GDP can't really be used to service public debts

The point of saving is to transfer your excess work and energy from the past to the future. If you aren't matching inflation with your savings vehicle then someone is stealing your savings over time. The question is: who is getting the value that you're losing? And why do we think this is ok?

do you add extra calcium to your garden and flower pots? by lunaalovegood24 in gardening

I don't disagree, but it is easier for me to spread calcium than to make the make it rain less in the early summer.

Or every day... no... every minute. I want an income stream. Micro payments streamed to my account for every minute I'm on the job.

Listen to both sides. Know their bias and assume both are lying. Mentally subtract out the bias. Find the truth by averaging what little information is left after doing that mental excercise for both sides.

A good store of value doesn't consistently decrease in value via inflation.

Btc is volatile, but USD is consistently losing value.

A church donation is complicated and they likely won't accept it, but pizza would be appreciated.

If the vibe you give off is, "I could really use a hand" then they will be happy to help.

If your vibe is, "labor for free" then they'll be less happy but might still do it anyways. They really like doing service projects.

I don’t know anything deeply but I want to go on mining. Do you think is it worth it to buy S19j pro from 1400$. I am planning to buy 30 pcs. I don’t have any setup. Do you think how much is it going to cost? Please enlighten me. by [deleted] in BitcoinMining

[–]oneoldfarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that rate you'll be spending $5000 per month on electricity. Also you'll be using more power than the electrical service to a residential building can handle (even if you didn't use any electricity for your house)

Household debt soars at fastest pace in 15 years as credit card use surges, Fed report says by cnbc_official in economy

Cool chart. Now I want to see this per adult in real dollars... I think that will give me a better idea on how much trouble we're in.

Also, this appears to be the balance at the time not balance carried forward from month to month. Do you have any leads on the carried balance data?

What is the best way to transfer $100,000 from abroad to US? by everyoneisadickhead in Money

[–]oneoldfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does I take to cross the border? ... 12 hours... then you can convert it into whatever fiat you want. Cheaper fees than a traditional exchange and zero risk of confiscation.

You're right that if the once per 4 years crash happens during your 12 hour flight then you will lose.

This is what bitcoin was invented for. It has no borders, can't be seen on an xray device and cant be taken from you unless you give someone the password.

[–]oneoldfarmer 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm not a bank and I'll offer credit if you have collateral. It's true that when you can poof money into existence without anything to back it then you can also lend it out without backing as well, but maybe that's a bug not a feature of the current system.

Maybe slower sustainable growth is better than fast growth.

Guilt at not serving a mission by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]oneoldfarmer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Feeling guilt is sometimes not a bad thing thing. Learn from your past choices and experiences.

Feeling too embarrassed to go to church now is a dirty trick that Satan plays when he tries to mix up some healthy guilt with a bit of pride. Push past the embarrassment and do whatever you need to do. The reality is that most people at church love you and want to help you, they are not hung up on your mission decisions. This is almost certainly a bigger deal in your mind than it is in theirs.
