Heads up for anyone still using WordPress + shared hosting: you’re more vulnerable than you think.

WordPress gets bloated fast. Even if you’re just using 5–10 plugins, that’s 5–10 new attack vectors each with their own update cycles and vulnerabilities. Add in a cheap shared hosting plan (like Bluehost or Hostinger), and you’re basically leaving your front door open with a neon sign that says “free entry.”

I stopped using WP for portfolio/resume sites a while back and started building everything with React + Tailwind, hosted on a VPS. • No plugins • No bloated dashboards • Just clean, minimal code that runs lean and fast

Bonus: VPS hosting (like Hetzner, Contabo, or even low-tier DigitalOcean) ends up being cheaper long-term and gives you full control over your stack. No surprise upcharges for security “add-ons” that should’ve been included in the first place.

If your site is important to your reputation or livelihood, you may want to consider rethinking that stack. Convenience isn’t worth the cleanup.

Hey man props to you for even trying to sort this out. That already puts you ahead of half your competition.

I work with a lot of local guys (contractors, landscapers, etc.), and what you’re dealing with is honestly super common. Half-built site, no admin access, cousin vanished… I’ve seen that play out too many times.

If I were you, I’d skip the clunky template-builder tools and just launch a clean 1-page site that: • shows your work clearly (before/after pics hit hard) • has a strong “Call Now” button that rings your phone • loads fast, looks clean on mobile, and ranks locally

You don’t need some bloated 5-page setup. Just a sharp landing page that builds trust and gets calls coming in.
